Do I need a forwarding service and what does 'specifying eyes' mean?

"Specifying eyes" is a machine translation for choosing the grain direction of the paper. Grain direction only maters if you plan to use the paper for bookbinding or glue it into pads or something. Paper expands more against the grain when it's moistened. Gluing the side that is against the grain will cause buckling. For a book the grain of the paper needs to be parallel to the spine.

Grain long, i.e. the grain is parallel to the long side of the paper, is the usual grain direction. For bookbinding the sheet needs to be folded twice (or any even number of times) so that the grain is parallel to the spine of the book. For example A4 sheet will make an A6 sized book (or A8 but that's getting very small).

Grain short is a more unusual grain direction. It can be used for bookbinding with an odd number of folds i.e. A4 is good for A5 sized book (or A7 etc.).

Yes, it's possible to get the 4000 sheet one. If you need to use a forwarding service, the whole package comes to about 15kg, which will cost around 15000+ yen (which is more than the paper itself)

This is according to a member in our local FP group who bought before.

A sincere man am I
From the land where palm trees grow,
And I want before I die
My soul's verses to bestow.

All those moments will be lost in time.
Like tears in rain.
Time to die.

I didn't use a forwarding service. :)

I know somebody in Japan so it was cheaper. :)

Shipping is indeed 15,000 yen, but that's standard for entire Asia from Japan. Tha package weighs 16kg in total (15kg paper+1kg packing material). I just hope that I don't have to go to the post office to collect it. That would be very painful.

Congratulations, time to ink up all your Fountain Pens.

Already inked up. ;)

Also ordered 3-4 78G so that I can use more inks at the same time. :)

Just had 4-5 pens before these came.

My parcel of 4000 sheets is in customs. So the wait beings. :)

It takes more time in custom clearance than in the time taken in taking the parcel from one place to another. That's indian customs for you.

4000 sheet seller will not ship to the UK :( any thoughts?

Need to use a forwarder which is not cheap typically they take a service fee based on weight and you need to pay for shipping to the forwarder on to of that that's 15kg domestic shipping to forwarder + forwarder service fee + international shipping to you :S

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
