Do Any Of Noodler's Inks Sheen?

I have always loved inks which had a sheen quality when dry. Not the gimmicky metal flake stuff we are seein with J Herbin's Rouge Hematite, Emerald of Chivor et al. or diamine's shimmertastic set, but the natural sheen that you get in darker/slower to dry regions. There was a huge, wonderful, picture heavy thread on sheen here https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/198510-inks-with-a-sheen/ if you are unsure what I am speaking of.

One thing I am noticing, as I am amassing ridiculous numbers of beautiful inks, though, is that those of only one brand seem reliably not to show this quality. Specifically Noodler's. Noodlers has namy beautiful colors, and I have a pretty good pile of them already, (Liberty's Elysium, Blue, Blue Eel, Midnight Blue, Walnut, Golden Brown and Kiowa Pecan), but none of them dry with a sheen like I can get from say, Diamine Majestic Blue Private Reserve Electric DC Blue, Sailor Yama Dori and many (honestly most) others. Even on Tomoe River paper, which greatly facilitates the appearance of sheens due to the slow drying times of inks upon it. \

Instead Noodlers' inks seem to dry to a dull, sheenless state. Am I just having bad luck, or is this simply a particular quality of the brands' inks? I understand some (soulless monstersb :yikes:) aren't into sheen so this could be viewed as a feature but I am finding that while the colors are beautiful, in the right lighting conditions to see some gloss, shine or sheen on inks, Noodlers' are all more matte, which leaves me disappointed.

Noodler's Revolution Blue (Goldspot exclusive) has a strong reddish sheen. Noodler's Nikita sheens a little on Tomoe River paper. Apart from those two, I don't know of any others. Noodler's inks are more noteworthy in general for NOT having sheen.

I have Revolution Blue.. I don't remember the sheen... will have to double check. I don't have Nikita... and for the life of me I can't think of a Noodlers' ink with sheen.... ...

Japanese inks are famous for sheen... but Noodlers... I don't think so,

You're welcome. BTW, only reason Ottoman Rose is there is because I thought I had grabbed Nikita. No sheen in Ottoman Rose.

I looked at some of my other colors. I suppose on Tomoe River, Noodler's Blue and Noodler's Navy sort-a-kinda-almost want to have a little reddish sheen, but it's so anemic that it's not worth mentioning. I included the Sailor ink to put it in perspective, i.e. some few of the Noodler's inks have a little bit of sheen on the right paper--definitely minor league.

A puddle of Navajo Turquoise will have a red sheen on Tomoe River, although I haven't seen it in regular writing, just more artistic purposes.

The ones that I can think of will halo around the edges but not outright sheen. American Blue fast dry is one and Navajo Turquoise is another that comes to mind.

It did not show in the picture, but N and v and T, q, u, and i all show red. Pelikan M400 with a custom italic - fairly wet but not a gusher.http://i.imgur.com/jRmSLPb.jpg

VCV will sheen. I don't have an image that I can easily find that captures it.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

What is "VCV"?

I didn't know, either. Turns out to be an FPN exclusive ink:

And a link directly to the store:

Looks quite nice to me.

Oh right. Thanks. I don't buy FPN inks, that's why I didn't recognise it.

Mary 1 sheens gold and Prime of the Commons sheens red - both lovely in wet writers and less absorbent paper! I was very pleasantly surprised and obviously over the moon - I love sheeny shiny inks!

Edit: I wish I could get the FPN exclusive Galileo and Van Gogh they look STUNNING - shipping to UK is prohibitive however.

Do a small group buy. I can fit 6 of the 3 oz bottles in the flat rate envelope. So it is the same cost to ship 1 or 6.

I have, on rare occasions, seen photos of sheen from Kung Te Cheng -- but it usually does not sheen for me.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
