I've always had a conflict on pen show weekend in previous years, but not this year! It's Marine Corps Marathon weekend, so Mike won't make it, but I am planning on going. I've never been to any pen show, so I'm a little excited that I will finally have the opportunity.

You are going to love it, it's the only one I've been to. Because it is a smaller one you don't feel overwhelmed and everyone is very friendly and nice :)

The Goat has the Michigan Pen Show on calendar. Is there a Detroit-ish pen posse save the Ann Arbor version which has eluded me thus far?

Sometimes I think I can taste the colors of the ink through my eyes. That Emerald.....

None that I know of, that's the only one I attend but would love to know if there is another :)

It's a bit of a trek for me (about 2 hours), but I hope to make it this year. I was just there for the Dream Cruise, too.

curiously I will heading out your way, hopefully to include a visit to the raptor center.. also, since an anniversary show takes precedence this year, likely a no show at the Met. Perhaps a later A2 meet, or I did see recently Oasis has space for 10-ish, by a window, with an outlet, and good coffee! I have a few nice and also starter pens to rehome, so hopefully we'll all cross paths eventually : )

I'll be going to show, probably on Saturday Oct 24th.

Anyone have access to the participant/dealer list? The show website does not have this year's list yet, or at least I couldn't find it there.

I was wondering if we have a nibmeister at the show this year.

Sadly, I think I have a prior (non pen-related) commitment for that weekend. :(

Hi Steve,

In the list (posted above). Mike Krut cleaned, rescacced, gently polished - not over-polishing away any imprints or original character, which was important to me, a Sheaffer roseglow. Mike also adjusted the 14knib. This pen was about to be sent to FPN's resident Sheaffer specialist Ron Zorn, when I learned Mike would be at the show. The pen required more attention than a quick show adjustment so I picked it up not long after the show. I was very pleased.

Among those listed above are several that do repair/adjustments, but may not have equipment with them for more than a simple tweak.

This will be my first pen show! Can anyone shed some light on what to expect at a show like this? I know it is small. Are there pens available for sale? seminars? I don't see too much info on the site. I know Brian @Edison will be there, and have chatted with him on Periscope about his presence. Any other "Must-See" vendors? Thanks!!

Hi Andy. It's a small show, which is an advantage for someone new to pens since this will allow time to make inquiries.

The Anderson's will have a variety of new and old pens, inks, papers, repair supplies. My single purchase last year was from Ralph's table.

AndySchwartz ...it's a small show compared to many of the others held so far this year. Usually occurs end September to end October. Takes place in a small banquet room with two aisles, both sides of sellers/display tables. They sometimes spill over to the hallway outside the banquet room. You'll see copious pen display trays down each aisle with modern and vintage pens (for sale) pen parts, ink and assorted periphernalia...several pen turners, a few pen repair folks and a banquet room full of really nice people. I'm looking forward to attending this years show, but suspect I may have several of my grandkids with me....just look for the crazy old broad with kids in tow...kids who each have their own fountain pens given to them two years ago by the Michigan Pen Show organizers. In past years they've had seminars...don't know about this years schedule though.

Keeping it all in the family...as it should be. LOL

Getting excited now, what better way to prepare for Fountain Pen Day on November 6th? Just so many nice people and so many nice pens :)

Look for me and say hi, I'll be the chubby Englishman looking all starry eyed and the precious bounty!

Definitely looking forward to the show. It's nice to browse the vintage pens, and also to see a cross section of the Anderson's stock in person.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
