If you are looking for an instant collection, you can go here

the pieces (3ish) I favor are in there ; )

knew when MT B ET Swan focus reignited I would remain an appreciative non-owner observer only since my past mo was to study/acquire small under the radar pieces. took awhile but realized I don't have own to appreciate, though inability to personally examine examples limits understanding. Reading about J.G.Rider and photos was not the same as personal examination and discussion.

dig beyond the collection page (above) and there's a swan box, and something nice marked ET.

I own 5 pens and they are very beautiful pens writes beautifully.

I am fortunate enough to add them to my collection. I think I have bit the bullet.

PS. I forgot I have a nice "Jack Saw " Hard rubber and it needs a Sac to fix. I use it as a dip pen.

My first was a Blackbird with a fun stub nib. I have a couple of Swallows, but I recently picked up 3 desk pens. I have a Jade Green desk pen that is one of my favorite writers. Having done that, I had to get some bases for them.

Not many, I fear. I had a bunch of them once upon a time (when they didn't cost much, many years ago) but sold them off to build up my German piston filler collection. Kept a few, though. Still some of the best nibs I've ever used. Would like to build the numbers back up, but the prices are beyond my means, these days. Deservedly so - they're marvellous pens, well worth the money.

Can't answer the poll: you omitted the options

- don't know

(in my case: 0 :) )

In my case

- don't know

but 10 to probably 40 would be a good starting point

At some point, I had about 170. Now, maybe three. I still think that Leverless Swans were one of the nicest pens of the 30s.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
