Private Reserve Electric Dc Blue Review

Hi all,

I recently bought this ink and immediately it went pretty much to the top of the list of my favourite blues. I have seen some mixed reviews about this ink not being anything special or not living up to its name. For me though, on Rhodia 90gsm paper, it's spectacular. I would like to start doing ink reviews on a regualr basis, so if there is anything you would like to see reviewed let me know!

I used a Noodler's Ahab, Lamy Al-Star (m) and a TWSBI 580 (F) for the review.

For me at least, this ink is well behaved and dries in an acceptable time (even for a leftie like me.) There was no bleedthrough during regular writing, although if you really pour the ink on with some enthusiastic flex, it will show through a little.

I should also add that I am not a huge fan of blue ink, but this has really caught my attention due to the vibrance and shading I could see.

For those who are looking for a replacement for the superhero status ink Parker Penman Sapphire, could this be the ink you are looking for? It has been talked about that Diamine Majestic Blue and DC Supershow Blue are closer matches. I don't have Supershow Blue or Sapphire to test. If any of you happen to have both, it would be great to see a side-by-side comparision of all the inks together.

I hope you enjoy my review! :)

Thank you for a lovely review, and congratulations on your first one! I look forward to many more. I adore this colour but have yet to get a bottle. There is something just lovely about vibrant electric blues. It does look like Diamine's Majestic Blue, one of my very first inks and still in regular rotation. I love the red sheen it produces.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
