Beautiful pen and photos!!  Yes, I agree, the matte (in whatever color) does have a "natural" and "woodsy" feel.

I can answer Frank McCourt's question: Three fountain pens!  :)

it's a long time since I received my model 3 pen, but I had not taken a picture to post until now...

here it is

P1080986-3.jpg

it's the mottled green polished finish

it's a nice dark green, British green I would dare say...

the photo in artificial light makes it look slightly darker than it is,

however the polished finish enhances the green/black contrast,

the gold clip and nib complete a very elegant look

the size 3 is my favourite Ranga size so far, it fits nicely and comfortably in my hand for long writing sessions, and I find extremely desirable the lack of step down from barrel to section.

the nib is a Jowo M, my preference is usually B nibs, but this pen is mostly used for notes (for the above reason of comfort) so M is useful for smaller writing and for less bleadthrough on cheaper paper. The nib is smooth without an excessive "holiday on ice" effect.

I just though it would be nice to compare the finish with the lovely green ripple bakul finish shown earlier in this thread

(I have the bakul on an olive ripple and a burgundy ripple Rangas and love it)

The model 3 is a perfect pen for my taste, the size is right, the balance is great, and I also love the light weight. In fact I am not too fond of heavy pens, that's why I tend to look at Indian pens among reasonably affordable pens rather than Chinese and besides, I feel a lot of fascination for the artisan work behind the Rangas and other Indian pens.
