HisNibs.com update -- Let a smile be your Pilot

Dear Norman,

Over the past 15 years or so, the Pilot 78G http://www.hisnibs.com/78g.htm
has probably been my best-selling individual pen model. Well, let it never
be said that I don't know a good thing when I see it!

Today I'm introducing another inexpensive Pilot fountain pen model -- the
Kakuno http://www.hisnibs.com/kakuno.htm! It's the perfect pen for a
beginner (young or old) and for those of us that like a bit of whimsy with
our pens (more about that in the main article).

Since we're going Pilot crazy (everything is relative -- although if you
think about it, *everything* can't be relative), then let's begin to carry
Pilot ink cartridges http://www.hisnibs.com/ink.htm as well (black and blue
to start with, as I don't want to go *too* crazy)!

Also new is the Jinhao Marbled http://www.hisnibs.com/marbled.htm model
fountain pen. Available in Green/Black or Gray/Black -- it's a very classy
pen.

The Crocodile Celluloid Flecks http://www.hisnibs.com/celluloid_flecks.htm
fountain pen series.

The Duke Pearl Waves http://www.hisnibs.com/pearl_waves.htm fountain pen
series.

As this newsletter goes out to a mailing list of thousands of customers,

orders after one of these is sent. We will respond in order received and as
soon as possible!

OK, let's me honest. Who doesn't want a smiling face staring up at them
from their nib while they write? It sort of encourages the endorphins and
makes for an all-around better disposition I say! Also, you might just find
that your nib winks at you (the nib on the white-barrel version)!!!!

http://www.hisnibs.com/PilotKakunoNibSmilie_small.jpg

The Kakuno is actually a full-size pen, measuring 5-1/8" capped, 6-1/4"
posted and 5" with cap held aside. Despite this, it's a great starter
fountain pen for a child (much like the Dollar SP-10
http://www.hisnibs.com/sp-10.htm syringe filler -- who often find it easier
to write with a pen that has some girth to it. Or, if you're an adult (with
a child inside, screaming to get out), then here's a pen that adds a bit of
whimsy to your life.

The pen comes packaged with a starter Pilot black ink cartridge, but you can
also substitute the CON-50 converter, to use bottled ink. Unless you ask me
not to, then I'll break the packaging seal in order to examine, and if
necessary, adjust the nib for you -- as I do with all pens that ship from
HisNibs.com.

Here's another great addition to the Jinhao line. These are a bit more
subtle and subdued than many of the Jinhao models, so perfect to take into
the boardroom or for a more formal setting.

The Marbled is a full-sized, perhaps even an oversized model, which measures
5-1/2" capped, 6-1/4" posted and 4-7/8" with cap held aside.

The Green/Black is virtually black in appearance, unless held under direct
light, at which point the green marbling becomes apparent. The barrel and
cap end-caps are black.

The marbling continues to both end-caps on the Gray/Black, which is a nice
feature.

Dear Norman, the Green Marble Crocodile pen arrived today, & it far exceeds
my expectations. How they can produce a pen of this quality and beauty for
the price is beyond me. One hesitation was the crocodile clip that I thought
might be gaudy & cheap looking, but in reality it adds a certain elegance to
the pen that I really like. Most important is the writing experience, and
the ink flow and line are just right. The Private Reserve American blue is a
great color, and looks to becoming one of my favorite daily inks. As always,
Lai Yee has done great work on the pen wrap, and that is also most
appreciated. Thanks also for the personal note. I know it takes your time,
but I always feel really good after receiving that...You have a great site,
wonderful products, and if I can be useful in promoting your business, it
would pleasure me greatly to do so. You give personal service that far
surpasses anything I have seen other places, and you certainly deserve to be
supported for that. Warm regards,"
C. K., San Antonio, TX

"Hello Norman, the pens arrived safe and sound, and thank you for your care
and attention to detail with the order. A very nice presentation package!
Also thank you for the guidance on how to keep pens in good working order if
they are not used for an extended period of time."
K. D., Sydney, Australia

"What a terrific pen Norman! This is my fifth or sixth Duke pen I've
purchased from you over the years, and they never disappoint. I love the
look of the Pearl Waves and the fact that the cap screws on both ends is a
plus for me. A smooth writer -- of course, from His Nibs -- and worth many
times this price, as it compares very favorably with other pens I have that
cost hundreds! Thanks for continuing to bring these beauties to the
collecting family!"
R. C., Jacksonville, FL

"Another great pen from His Nibs! How do you find all of these Norman? Make
them in your basement? I especially like the shape of the section and how it
'interacts' with the nib visually. I now want all of my pens to have pearl
jewels! What panache!"
S. W., Indianapolis, IN

"Norman, the pens were outstanding! Everyone here is incredibly jealous of
them! I will be sending them all your way! By the way I had a complete blast
trying to figure out how to fill these up! Bottled ink was definitely the
way to go! I'll be for sure making more purchases soon!"
D. F., USS JASON DUNHAM

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
