Mystery Fountain Pen From A Lot

I recently got a lot of pens off ebay, including two Parker 45s (one missing the cap and the other with bent tines), a Wearever Saber and a Mystery Pen. I figured it was a pretty good deal for $15 shipped, especially since I just wanted the good Parker 45 nib unit to replace one that came damaged in a Flighter. If I can fix the other nib and find a cap, I've even got a nice new 45. Anyway, I also received this one pen which I've not been able to identify. The clip on the cap is engraved with "U.S.A." and the nib says "Stainless." There's something else on the nib, but I can't quite make it out since it's cut off by the section, and the nib unit doesn't seem easily removed.

The convertor seems to be glued on, as I can't remove it from the rest of the section. For now, at least, it seems to draw in and expel water, but I'd like to get it off and clean out the staining on the inside of the section. I'd also feel better being able to replace the bladder with something new that I know will be good.

Edit: Apparently you can magically click the first picture to see the rest of the album, so I've wasted the last 15 minutes trying to embed the whole thing. Anyway, more pics over there, and at a higher resolution.

I don't think it's a converter. I think it's an inbuilt squeeze-filler. Don't try and yank it off. To clean the pen, just pump water in and out of it repeatedly, or use an ultrasonic cleaner, if you have one.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
