Now I got really tempted to buy a bottle of Take-sumi....

Take-sumi is a wonderful black, I doubt you'll have any regrets over it. If you can, it's a great ink at an incredible price.

I was going to get a bottle of Shin Kai, but the shipping cost wouldn't update, just kept saying pending.

Ok, then this isn't going to work for me. I'm not willing to give all my billing info unless I know exactly how much I'm going to be charged, before I submit the order.

Just opt for PayPal as the payment method when you actually make the transaction.

You need to give all your information to make an account.

I selected the credit card payment method by mistake and the seller tried to charge my credit card. Bank denied it as it needs an authorization code which is randomly generated and sent by my bank to me on my phone.

Edit: Rakuten is a wonderful place to buy directly from Japan. Even Nagasawa inks are available there. It doesn't find much mention here for some reason.

Unfortunately, this is how Rakuten works in terms of shipping, but they do not process the order without an email confirmation from the buyer.

If you're apprehensive, wait for other members here to receive their shipments and inquire about the experience--I've never had any issue when dealing with vendors on Rakuten.

Take care!

Thanks Haruka, no problems here as well with Rakuten vendors and, like I said in the first post, I received over ten bottles in short order.

This is the way Rakuten works. Place the order for the goods without shipping, receive email confirmation first, then another email for you to confirm the total that includes shipping. Now Voice does something a little different where they changed the payment method to PayPal, so you just have to use the link they sent you to complete the PayPal transaction. If you originally paid as PayPal, you won't have this extra step. They ship very quickly and they just sent me an email saying they are just waiting transfer of some items (non-ink) and they will be shipping my second order out tomorrow.

Also, in this thread, there are a few of us that have ordered through other Rakuten shops very successfully, like Komamono-Honpo, Pen House and Waki Stationary. I hope this helps :)

Ridiculously good prices, especially since I just visited a B&M store at which I would have paid for 1 bottle what I paid here for 3.

(Don't despair: I made some nice purchases at said B&M to keep things in perspective. Love the B&M stores!)

you place the order > shipping charges are pending

Voice sends you an e-mail with the total, including shipping

you either confirm or decline the order - they won't complete the order without confirmation.

I just ordered a couple, I plan on taking photos of the packing. Shipping to Canada was a little more than the cost of two bottles, ah, so it goes.

^yep, their prices are even lower. :)

Edit: choose small packet shipping. Also, iirc you were the one who liked the 4 season inks of sailor. Why don't you buy some of that too? You have a bottle of Yama-Dori, get the other 2 you liked. :)

Good question...

But I ordered Kobe Nagasawa #23 from cool-japan on eBay instead. Can't order everything at once...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
