2015 Dc Pen Show Finds

My girlfriend & I attended the 2015 DC Pen Show last week. We picked up a few Esterbrook pens. Here are some photos. The first is a Dollar Pen & Pencil set. The pen is an A model (slender). The second is a Black Bandless A model (slender) pen. I am showing it with a B model already in her collection for reference. The third is a Deluxe "Military Clip" model. I've read that this may not have actually been made for the military, but it seems to be the name that is associated with this pen. The fourth & fifth are a Dollar H model (demi) with a 1314 nib. I just about fell over when I found these pens. All black, too. The Black Pen Society would be proud. So these now reside in my girlfriends pen case. The last photo is what happens when you leave your light box unattended to edit & post pictures on FPN.

Very cool! I picked up a Deluxe military cap earlier this year, and tried to dig up more information on them. Our resident experts confirmed that there isn't a whole lot of information out there, and apparently no advertising history. I think it was Brian Anderson who related that he had talked to someone that remembers them being sold on military bases, so it could be that they were sold to the military through the PX. Again, no real solid information. Even the imprint has open questions - it just has "Esterbrook", which makes the year of manufacture a question. Your Deluxe looks in better shape than mine. I have been just about ready to ink it up and play with it.

Thanks Bruce,

They were already resacked when I bought them, as well. The nibs were very tight though. I had to run them through the sonic cleaner multiple times to get them out of their sections. The military pen was the tightest. I finally used two section pliers to get the nib out.

Woah... I'd have to say the best find here is that cat... looks to be in perfectly mint condition!

Original sac & nib, as well. Not going to try to polish her up though. She still has her original claws. Oh yeah, she's a little scratchy, too.

A little scratchiness just gives character! A+ for an excellent find!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
