Yes, near Fremont Street in Fabulous Las Vegas.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

5 samples (from one InkDrop) and 21 bottles. The curse of living in a place where samples are almost non-existent (or cost just slightly less than a full bottle).

So will you buy any of the samples?

I will likely get a couple. I really like the Herbin 1670s and the eels.

So it has been a while since I started this thread, and things have changed a bit. I now have less that a dozen samples and 18 bottles of ink - and soon to be more. I discovered both Califolio and Franklin-Cristoph inks and am enjoying them right now.

Regarding the reduction in samples, the samples that are now "gone" are all the Noodler's inks. As much as I love the colors, the ink formula is not for me. I really don't care for the residue left on the paper after the ink dries, particularly on Tomoe River paper (it doesn't happen as much on lesser quality papers). It smears too much for my taste. So, I just got rid of them.

I think amberleadavis is rubbing off on me. I just bought another 6 bottles of ink and another 7 samples. But, I have to admit that I only had 5 samples left.

So that brings my total up to 24 bottles and 12 samples.

Part ONE: A few of my color cards, arranged in what looks to me like an order (yellow-brown-orange-red-violet-blue-turquoise-green). The cards only represent the bottles of inks, not samples...

Sort answer at the moment is, too many-- at least too many samples. A quick count just put me at 54 samples, and I only have one of the 40-slot sample holders (it fits nicely into a drawer by my desk). So the goal is to be down under 40 by July (just in time for the Goulets' annual sample sale! ;) ). Hopefully I won't want too many of them as full bottles, either, as I'm quickly running out of room on my dedicated ink shelves. (I didn't count, but I think it's around 25 bottles, with room for about 10 more).

Wow! Really impressive! You are so organized.

I have only one question for you: Does DeA Frankincense really smell like Frankincense?

YES, it does! It is a wonderful incense scent. The deA Patchouli is excellent, as well!

Wow impressive collection, HalloweenHJB!

I've got just 1 sample and 14 bottles of ink. I've only been using bottled ink for maybe 2 months so I think you could say I'm addicted... (Dutch shop having a 3+1 sale on Herbin inks didn't help!)

Going by memory, I have about 25 ink samples, but I think a few of them are empty (or nearly so) now. As for bottles, I have four Iroshizuku minis and one bottle of Levenger ink.

The deA Patchouli is excellent, as well!

Except that it doesn't smell anything like patchouli. It smells like someone's musty basement. Really disappointing because I love the scent of patchouli in small doses.... It's too bad, because it's an interesting color ink.

Have not tried D'A Frankincense (and not sure whether I'd ID it as such or not. The sample of Black Roses had a bit of the rose scent -- if you stuck your nose right up to the open vial; but maybe it's more intense with a full bottle, the way Red Roses is (Red Roses, BTW is WONDERFUL). I've also tried the Lavender Blue but it didn't smell much like lavender -- or much of anything else, for that matter; but, again, it was just a sample vial).

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
