Help Id A Ferrari Da Varese

I recently won this pen in an Ebay auction and I'm trying to find out the model and a possible production time frame. I think I did pretty good, price wise, but if someone knows what it's approximate value is that would be helpful too.

That looks like one of the earlier contract pens that they sold through local jewelry stores. I don't think they had any model names.

BUT... the guild mark is not Ferrari Da Varese. Fd'V guildmark is ★320VA and the mark on your pen would be a Milan Guild.

So produced buy another guild for Fd'V? I don't intend on reselling it but was $99 a bad price? Hopefully it writes really well. I'll find out in a couple of weeks.

I don't know. Fd'V did make pens that were sold under other names but I don't know if they also had pens OEM's under their name. The guild stamp on your pen is not one I am familiar with, but it is a fairly new (likely post WWII) Milano guild stamp. The Richemont Milan guild stamp is 1140 MI as an example.

I think I found out what the model of the pen is!

It appears to be an early version of the Conica with the Rhombus finish (picture from current catalog below). The Conica is still part of their Major Lines. The only difference between the Conica in their catalog and the pen I bought is that the barrel end is flat on the one in the catalog. Can't believe I missed that when looking at their catalog yesterday.

I also found a reference on the 925-1000.com forums that implies that the 1657 MI guild mark is registered to Fd'V. It has to be true because I found it on the internet. :D

The nib looks just like the 18k on the current version but they also had some steel nibs on other pens that were similar looking. I won't know for sure until it gets here.

Thanks. I would be grateful for an update when it arrives.

If you love it it was worth it, but even still 99 does not sound bad for a beautiful pen. I have not seen many Ferrari da Varese pens state side.

Nice find.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
