Tool Box With Drawers

FOUR X FOUR

Recommended Posts

i know this has been posted several times. I just can't find it. Anyway, I bought this great looking tool chest, yesterday from Harbor freight. It was 79 dollars pus tax. It has felt liners in it. The top Bin is deep enough to store inks in. I think you can get 100 pens in this. Heat, easily.

Poor grammar, poor picture. I wouldn't respond this, either. Sorry, every body. I use an iPhone or an iPad and I just can't get my pics to come out right.

Very nice. I have a similar one I purchased from Costco. I've lined the shallow drawers with pen slots and keep ink bottles in the deeper drawers. Actually, Ive been thinking of picking up another.

I ran across it in a thread on FountainPenGeeks. No doubt it's somewhere here too. :)

That clever wooden toolbox made its way into my Evernote account (which inevitably means that, at some point, I'll lose all semblance of self control and buy the thing, even though I already have ink storage and leather pen folios in use).

Congrats on the new purchase!

Why are there fourteen samples of dark plum ink on my desk? Because I still haven't found the right shade.

Is that a problem...??? : : : sigh : : :

Update: Great. Finally found one I love (Lamy Dark Lilac) but I can't get more. Ah, life in my inky world....

You should just throw caution to the wind and buy it. The top bin is deep enough to hold bottles as large as Noodlers 3oz. Any thing bigger would be pushing it. I think I'm gonna get another one, also. I think I'm gonna paint this one just for the fun of it.

Great finding (I love those tool boxes you can get in the US. But here, only on ebay and prices are obscene. :(

I have copied and turned your photos.

I just tried adding a few new pics. It's taking for ever to upload. I'll try later. I decided to paint the box. It's pretty cheap in the first place. So I decided I'd have a little fun. I took off all the hardware, sanded all the wood inside and out. I primed it with pigmented shellac. Then I'll spray another primer coat with a light gray. Then The finish color will be red. The hardware will sprayed matte black. The red will be gloss. I can't decide on what color to make the inside. Black or red. I'll just see how it looks when I get to that point. P,ease keep your fingers crossed for me.

It may not fit everyone's decor, but I just picked up a metal Kennedy machinist's chest for storing pens and paraphernalia. I already had a few in the garage for tools and figured it would be perfect for pens. Brown wrinkle-coat paint, seven drawers of varying size. I picked this one up on Craigslist for $50, but that was an unusually good deal. You can get basically the same thing on Ebay for around $100 anytime.

Oh. My. God. That's going to be stunning.

(I vote black on the inside, since matching reds will be next to impossible, plus that would tie the hardware in more directly...just my two cents.)

Not sure if I missed this somewhere along the way, but how deep are each of the drawers? Great that the top tray deep enough for Noodler's bottles, but seems someone in another thread mentioned it being too shallow to fit Noodler's boxes...?

You are welcome.

I am longing to see it finished.

I may have said in a first post that Noodlers 3.5 oz bottles were just a tad too big. Not so. They will fit in the of the box where it is closed by a lid, not a drawer. I'd put my inks in the top anyway. I think I have a few pics to add as updates

Black on the inside is a good idea.

Alrighty, hers a very small update. I generally pretty busy with other things, like trying to take over the world that I just don't have that much time to devote to pen cases Sky Boo my Saint Bernard had to approve this one before I could upload it.

Tomorrow, if I can I will buy some black paint, for the inside. Then things oughta start taking shape

But before I spray the the glossy red on the outside I'm gonna spray a gray a gray sand able primer. This will give me the surface I want, then comes the glossy red. The hardware, I washed them in denatured alcohol and lightly scuffed them. They'll get the matte finished engine paint. Cross your fingers for me Fountainpagen and paper queen and who ever else wants to see the squirrel finally get a nut

Instead of the gray primer, you could alternatively pick up a quart of Kilz for the base coat. That's my go-to for walls, after doing one final über-smooth sanding.

Geeze, this is going to be gorgeous.

Ooooooh.... I like this. Will be tuning in as well. Do you mind if I ask how you got the hardware off?

FOUR X FOUR, how deep are each of the drawers (looks like some might be deeper than others)?

You've inspired me to walk around the house, trying to figure out where I could put one of these.... :happyberet:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
