Paper For Fountain Pens - Tomoe River Pads

Recommended Posts

I recently got a chance to try Tomoe River paper was was wowed by it just like pretty much everyone who tries it. I looked around and ended up ordering two pads from http://www.paperforfountainpens.com/, one in cream and one in white.

It was easy to order, and quite reasonable: 100 sheets of 8.5x11 for $11, already mounted as a pad, easy to remove with a nice board back and blue cover. It came very well packed and I am quite happy with the whole transaction and the price! I haven't tried one of his journals yet, but when I go to get one I know where I'll look first.

Just wanted to share the positive experience and give you another place to get your TR fix.

I used to get my Tomoe from PaperforFountainPens - the journals are very nice, as well as the pads. They're pretty well known on this Forum.

But shipping to UK was just ridiculously expensive, so I've now found alternative sources. However I do wholeheartedly agree; Jay is a great vendor.

I've been thinking of trying some Tomoegawa paper - it's like that in the Hobonichi planner I think - but need to find a more amenable dealer (shipping-wise). While you are in Australia do you have a preferred seller?

The only Australian seller of Tomoe River paper at the moment (that I know of) is bookbindersonline.com.au. JustWrite used to stock both notebooks and sheet paper, but are out of stock right now - and I'm not sure what their future plans are.

Jamerelbe is right - JustWrite used to stock Tomoe but they don't have any currently. I'm not sure what Kevin's future plans are. I ordered a pad of Tomoe from Bookbinderonline as I ran out of the paper I brought with me from UK. They only sell writing paper pads in cream at AUD $28 for 100 sheets. They also make some nice TR notebooks. I'm not sure what shipping is to NZ though.

Coincidentally I was very lucky this week. I won a free prize draw by Bookbinders - a very generous gift card for their products. So I've got a nice parcel of goodies on the way to me right now. :-)

Where did you find?

I may go direct to Japan then. Shipping from there is usually very reasonable.

Shipping becomes a lot more expensive when you're dealing with paper rather than pens - which is (I think) why Kevin from JustWrite is thinking twice before stocking any more.

Do you have a link? I couldn't find one from Japan.

Thank you

Not as yet. I'm searching, but I do have some contacts who may be able to help. I'll let you know if I get a nibble.

I bought from Japan but only in larger amounts (4,000 sheets).

As a side note I would have to say that so far I prefer the paper that Midori use over Tomoe River, as it seems to have a better feel under the nib for me, but I cannot find any sources for A4 stock in the Midori line.

Do you have link? I might be able to organize a group buy if the price is good.

I just got in the smaller notepads of Tomoe River paper from him and I love it. The blue cover is a little flimsier than I would prefer but overall I love them and plan to order more as well. This works out better for me than the loose paper too. I think it came as a three pack of 100 sheets each pad. Well worth it for me.

Life isn't always what you make it. Sometimes it just falls in your lap and you have to deal with it.

I was considering this today as it is very affordable and will last more than an year easily if I use TR exclusively. It won't be a group buy though because I don't want to go through the trouble of separating the sheets and then forwarding to everyone. Everything for personal consumption/usage.

Would you mind telling the total cost including freight forwarding service?

Amazon Japan sells TR paper in 100, but I can't remember if it was in pads or loose leaf.

100 sheets will get used up in a week or two. Plus, it can't get any cheaper than this.

Also, I prefer to use loose leaf. Bindings cause problems at the at the end of page writing with left. If I want it bind, I can get it done here with 100 sheets for 30 cents.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
