Your Top 3 Favourite Eye Droppers! :)

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone I thought it would be good to have a thread on everyones favourite eyedropper FPs. To be clear this includes stable conversions from non-eye dropper to eyedropper. Please list your top 3 favourite (if possible give honourable mentions to eyedroppers that are smooth and/or relatively cheaper [< $100]).

My only eye dropper is the Noodler's ahab which I converted. So that would be mine.

What about all of yours??

From the top down, my top three would be the ASA Sniper, any of my three Preppies, and my Pilot Prera. They're all fine-points, but that's a coincidence.

Until you ink a pen, it is merely a pretty stick. --UK Mike

My arsenal, in order of acquisition: Sailor 21 Pocket Pen M, Cross Solo M, Online Calligraphy, Monteverde Invincia F, Hero 359 M, Jinhao X450 M, Levenger True Writer M, Jinhao 159 M, Platinum Balance F, TWSBI Classic 1.1 stub, Platinum Preppy 0.3 F, 7 Pilot Varsity M disposables refillables, Speedball penholder, TWSBI 580 USA EF, Pilot MR, Noodler's Ahab 1.1 stub, another Preppy 0.3, Preppy EF 0.2, ASA Sniper F, Click Majestic F, Kaweco Sport M, Pilot Prera F, Baoer 79 M (fake Starwalker), Hero 616 M (fake Parker), Jinhao X750 Shimmering Sands M . . .

India is an eyedropper paradise. I especially love ebonite Indian eyedroppers. The one I use most is ASA Athlete with stock nib. As far as looks go, it has superior rivals. But its fit is ever so comfortable! This pen is also very reliable. It takes much attention to unscrew thin long section threads in order to open the ink reservoir. So it is quite accident safe. No chance to spill the ink unintentionally. With Indian ebonite pens I began to trust an eyedropper. It became my favorite filling system.

Oh! The three favorite eyedroppers!

1. ASA Athlete

2. Deccan Advocate

3. ASA I-Can

Definitely agree on any of the Deccan pens, and on the ASA ED pens that I've tried. It seems to me that some of the Indian pen vendors have moved to more effective feeds in the last few years, so they have mostly tamed the air-expansion issues with EDs.

But I should mention the Recife Crystal as well: one of the best writers of any kind that I've run across. And I couldn't not mention the wonderful, very affordable Pilot Tank. Both are flawless.

Gama Hawk, Ranga 4C and ASA Daily. Kim Nova and Jumbo are just below these mainly due to mediocre nibs. The ASA I Can is also a favourite of mine.

I've tried kaweco sport as an eyedropper filler and had too many ink burping issues.

(I know. I KNOW about keeping the tank near full, but that rather defeats the point doesnt it?)

All of my rangas (4C, 5, 8, Zeal, & Bamboo) behave very well as eyedropper fillers, no ink burping whatsoever, even as the pen runs dry as all the ink gets used up.

All of my Franklin christophs are the same (intrinsic, iterum, '1901', marrietta, & abditus)

The unlikely candidate here which has worked surprisingly well for me has been the Lamy Safari. I used plumbing sealant glue to close up all of the holes in the barrel. The threads are fine with a bit of silicone grease. Minor burping seen here but I love using it with the 1.9 nib knowing I have ample supply to back up that demanding nib.

The only eyedroppers I have are a pair of Noodler's clear EDs that came with my 4.5oz bottle of Borealis Black. One has a flex nib. Both are burp-prone, but given the rather small feeds, this is hardly surprising, especially when exacerbated by going from a chilly car to a warm hand/office in the space of 10 minutes.

Are there any current Indian ebonite EDs that should be avoided for burping?

Can snatch it (buy it) from you? :bunny01:

Seriously now, have you found a way to eliminate the burping?

Which ones were you wanting to snatch. The lamy, the ranga or the FC?

I like juicy wet flow from my writers and maybe this helps mitigate the burping as I have upped the consumption of ink. Are you working with fine or extra fine nibs?

The Lamy... I have the biggest italic of Lamy (1.9?) that requires so much ink! Edited by Lamyrada

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
