Looking For A Dark Grey-Blue Ink

I'm looking for a dark (the darkest the better) grey ink with blue colour notes if possible.

Any recommendation?

Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-kai would fit your description perfectly.

I have it, and I'm looking for something more grey than the shin-kai.

I think that maybe the kiri-same would be simmilar to what I want. What do you think?

Shin Kai may be a bit too...green. I find J Herbin Bleu Nuit to be the best dusty dark blue, well behaved, and beautiful.

Kiri-same might do the trick, although I haven't played with it. Some photos I have seen suggest a hint of blue in it. Worth getting a sample.

I don't see any green in Shin-kai at all. Bleu Nuit may not be grey enough for your purposes.

I have written with kiri-same, and there was no hint of blue. In a Parker 51 fine, the line was a pure, rather light grey.

Another vote for deAtrementis Fog Grey. I see it as grey with a hint of blue.

Easily obtainable: De Atramentis Fog Grey, Pilot Iroshizuku Fuyu-Syogun (rather expensive), Diamine Chopin (part of Music Set, can be bought separetely)

Harder to get: L'Artisan Pastellier Gris de Payne (encre classique), Organics Studio Blue Merle

Kiri-same definitely isn't what you want. It has no blue, but rather a red/plum undertone. It's also fairly light.

Fuyu-syogun is also too light.

I'd suggest either Sailor Blue Black (bluer) or De Atramentis Fog Grey (greyer).

Sailor Blue-Black, as has been mentioned. Or Kobe #23, which is even darker and greyer than Sailor BB, while retaining its blueness. I can post a pic in the morning.

Here's a pic of Sailor Blue Black and Sailor Kobe #23. They look very similar here, but the Kobe is a shade darker and a little more grey, at least to my eye:

I bought some samples from Goulet a while back, and mixed Noodlers 54th Mass and De Atrementis Silver Grey. I don't have pictures of it, and don't have any of the mixture left, but it was a deep grey that hinted at blue.

Really nice sheen on the Kobe.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
