Notebook For College

Hello all.

First post, so be kind please :D . I'll cut right to it. I'm headed to college next year, and I'd like to take notes with my fountain pens. I'm therefore looking for a suitable notebook, which I'd like to have several characteristics. I'd like it to be A4, with tear out pages, and binder holes (the number doesn't really matter, I'll purchase binders to match). Also, I prefer spiral notebooks as opposed to stapled or glued, and prefer them bound on the side, not the top. What notebook do you recommend? Rhodia and the other "famous" brands don't seem to have a notebook like this. Oh, and although I don't want to say price is no concern and sound like a jerk, it really isn't, cause college is free where I live, so I can spend all my money on paper.

Thanks a lot in advance!

You may not be thrilled, but what I did in college was to use the back sides of printouts that people didn't pick up in the computer lab. Parker Quink was great on this paper.

In my fantasy life, I love Rhodia dot pads. I also really like the Kokuyo Campus notebooks and the Kokuyo Campus binder paper, especially the stuff with dots and lines combined.

Welcome to FPN!

Take a look at Black n' Red spiralbound notebooks. They come in A4 size and have tear out pages but do not have binder holes. The optik white paper is great for fountain pens.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I'll definitely take a look into them. I think there are Clairefontaine notebooks that match my wants, but I can't seem to find a store where there is a large and well organized selection of them. Amazon is utter chaos and the smaller retailers don't have as much variety. Can anybody point me in the right direction? Or any other suggestions?

Thanks again!

Have you looked at GouletPens.com? They have a decent Clairefontaine selection, although if I'm interpreting your flag right, it's kinda silly to buy a notebook that was shipped from France to Canada, then the United States, then back across the Atlantic to Spain. Then again, if you can't find a more local retailer, I understand.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
