I just saw Taccia has a neat Japan-style wrap but IDK if it's big enough for 1/2 a dozen pens. I'm currently using an old cigar box and my babies are floating around in there.

My favorite is the Franklin Christoph Penvelope. I do have one, but this picture is from their website.

I have the Nock Co. Brasstown, its more of a roll with zipper closure but its very handy! www.nockco.com

I totally agree. These are very useful for carrying a few pens around. There's also room inside for spare bits & pieces (ink vial, cartridges, blotting paper, tissues etc etc), tucked in the case, on each side of the roll, even when the roll is full. Because of the material it's also intrinsically lightweight and soft and squishy enough to tuck inside a larger bag, whilst still protecting your pens. I love mine.

I love my five pen Venlo case. Beautiful leather, and soft inside to protect the pens. Ruud

Nagasawa Leather Pen Roll for 5 pens (from cool-japan on eBay).

The exterior is buttery soft kip (calf) leather. The interior is lined with Ecsaine (an ultra-microfibre) to prevent the pens from slipping out or getting scratched. It's very lightweight, and can be stood on its end like a penholder. The slots are snug, and will accommodate my tiny Pilot Prera as well as monsters like the Monteverde Invincia and Omas Paragon equally comfortably.

Only downside is that it probably won't protect against serious knocks or droppage, but barring that, it's a user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing pen roll.

The search for a 5- or 6-pen case has become immensely frustrating for me, even after reading many revies on FPN, so please forgive my re-opening the topic. I need something harder than a pen wrap, for large, sometimes fat pens (MB 149, Pelikan M1000, F-C 19.) The F-C penvelope, which I have, is bulky, and pens can rattle around, plus, the hard material on the slots makes it hard to clip on certain pens and dig out a number of clipless ones. I've seen at least two complaints on each of the following cases, so, with apologies, let's please leave them out, even if you love them and have never had a problem yourself: Dreamtouch's zipper can rub against and scratch pens. The Venlo is made of chrome-tanned leather, which can affect the metal on pens even though they are not in direct contact with it. The Aston has elastic bands, which have caused trouble (including for me in my beloved Libelle 3-pen cases,) so elastic bands are pretty much out. Phew! Any thoughts on ANYthing else? Thanks!

I have a six-pen case almost identical to the one here: http://www.andersonpens.com/6-Pen-Case-Black-Leather-p/pcl6black.htm

I like it very much and it does indeed hold six of my very largest pens. I have no relationship with Anderson Pens, I just posted this link because I remember seeing these cases at their table at the LA Pen Show this February and you seemed desperate for some help.

I don't like the F-C case either, very bulky and unless you clip your pen to the case the pens slide around too much.

I was going to recommend a case but then noticed it's on your "no" list. After looking around for some time that was the best 5-6 pen case I could find.

I did come across this idea on a different forum that I thought was worth trying but could never find the case to start from

A cigar case can be a good option. I had a 3 slot case in leather with a cloth interior. It was large enough to hold a Danitrio Mikado which is a lot larger than a 149 or M1000. I don't have a specific case to recommend, just suggest exploring that avenue.

Three excellent ideas, and I thank you all. The one from Anderson looks really interesting, because each slot is separate from the others, instead of being stitched side-by-side -- might be less helpful against drops, but compensated for by not having to do the big-pen-small-pen squeeze. (It's hyphens night!) The eyeglasses case idea is really smart, and I think I have one like that, but folding the felt around seems a pain. HOWEVER, if I could find one big enough to accommodate my pen roll, that would be PERFECTION. And I have indeed been on the trail of cigar cases, with dissatisfying results, but I shall bore you no further. Thanks again!

Visconti 5-pen case?

For me though the best case is nagasawa 5pen wrap. It is supple enough to accomodate massive pens like Omas new Paragon, so I would think would fit MB 149. It also wraps up very small, so you could throw it into another case as well- I sometimes throw it into my Nomadic pencil pouch if I want 100% all around coverage.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
