De Atramentis Document Ink - Yellow

De Atramentis is german manufacturer of calligraphy and writing ink. The inks are hand made (the entire production process is done manually in their manufacturing center) by i's founder - Dr. Franz-Josef Jensen. I believe he uses high quality dyes from well established European companies like BASF and Bayer.

De Atramentis offers a variety of "traditional" fountain pen inks and a broad selection of special and scented inks. I believe they should get more attention as the quality od these fluids is rather good and many of the colors are simply stunning.

Document inks are permanent and waterproof. I confirm - water does nothing to them. Time will tell if light influences them in any way.

The colors are:

  1. Blue
  2. Brown
  3. Dark Blue
  4. Fuchsia
  5. Green
  6. Red
  7. Turquoise
  8. Yellow

Yellow is nice, moderately saturated yellow ink. Rather unpractical and not suitable for everyday use - as most yellows it's not always legible.

Tricked throughout the centuries...

For centuries people had been tricked by kings & "religion-alism"

In the 20th century people got tricked by communism

Today people get tricked by (neo)capitalism :)

The 5:1 and 3:1 are gorgeous. Is this mixing table made by you? I'd love to see the whole thing!

Nice effect :) I tend to rate inks by their looks out of box. I'm not really into powders or mixing. I dislike the process. That's why I'm mostly disappointed with Document Ink line. But looking at your samples is eye-opening :) It won't change anything. I won 't buy a bottle but evidently there's some potential to them :)

I'd like to see a mixing table, too. A couple of these are lovely enough to try myself.

Has anyone tried using this ink in a Preppy highlighter?

It may be very useful as a waterproof highlighter ink.

I need a substitute for Noodler's Year of the Golden Pig.

I'll answer my own question...yes, this is a good highlighter ink!

It flows flawlessly in a Preppy highlighter and isn't too saturated to obscure the text underneath.

Unlike Noodler's YotGP, it's not a chartreuse yellow but a true yellow.

For search for a new yellow highlighter ink is over!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
