Hello From Devon, England

Hi everyone, I'm new here :sm_cat:

I have a Montblanc Meisterstuck 146 in burgundy resin, which my husband gave me 14 years ago so it's very dear to me! It's the first fountain pen I got since childhood many years ago when I had a Parker - can't remember which one, but it was brushed steel and I loved it to bits.

I wandered on to this site when I googled what to do about my Montblanc which I discovered had serious cracks in the body and lid - not my fault. Anyway, that's all resolved now - I won't go into the whole story about that here!

I live in Devon, England. I was astonished to discover how many people are passionate about fountain pens. I'll check in here from time to time as I've got a lot to learn. I'm happy to share my limited knowledge with people, or just hang out and have a laugh.

Cheers everyone.

Allie

Hi Allie, welcome to FPN. You'll have plenty of fun here!

I'm a Janner myself, though I live on the other side of the world right now. Miss the Westcountry enormously.

First time in my life I hear of cracks in a Montblanc How is it so ?

Hi penrivers. To answer your question, I don't know how it happened. All I know is, I picked up the pen one day, having not used it for a while, and discovered cracks in the barrel and the lid. The cracks went along the pen, not around, if you see what I mean. I hadn't dropped it or anything. But I did some research online and discovered other people have had a similar experience... Anyway, it's all fixed now. I sent it to the MB service centre in Hamburg and got it back within 3 weeks. I did have to pay a small fee, but I thought it was worth it as the pen is as good as new now.

Welcome to FPN! I love FPs as a gift from a loved one even more than "regular" FPs. Enjoy!

Just thinking it might be fun to go to this site and find your old, cherished Parker fountain pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
