Advice On A Pen Pouch For 149

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I had been reading the threads on pen pouches for the 149, and is strongly leaning to getting a Florence 2 pen hard leather one.

Are there any other hard case pouches that I should check out before taking the plunge?

Also, does the crocodile designed skin age well? Will it peel, and if it does can Montblanc fix them?

Thank you,

David

Thank you jsolares and meiers, I finally found and purchased a black smooth used one from ebay.

Looking forward to receive it. :)

They are beautiful cases, no doubt whatsoever. For future ones, you may want to look at Franklin-Christoph -- very well made, well-sized for large pens, handsome, far less expensive.

That is a very nice and a very desirable pen case at a fair price.

I went through a phase in my collecting journey where I purchased a number of cheap pen pouches. I ended up with a drawerful of "good deals" that were a complete waste of space... until I got rid of them.

I think you are doing it right. It's not about quantity but quality.

Tim has a point. For me, there are good less expensive alternatives. I really like "Sonnenleder" pen cases and am tempted to get one.

Thank you Tim, their 2 pen envelope looks very nicely designed and functional. Maybe I'll get one in the future.

Meiers, I read/learned a lot on this forum, a lot of good advices.

I had to learn the hard way too, for other areas. So, this time I decided to just skip ahead and try out a case and a pen for use. :)

At age 55 I have decided to buy less stuff and spend the pocket money I save on things that I really like.

At 63 I am getting better at living up to the same decision, made at 55.

btw, nice bike! I had a wonderful old Carlton racer, all campagnolo, for years. But, then I had knees, too. Now I have a super light city bike that looks intentionally like junk. Perfect for Manhattan.

Its a nice pouch, I too was fortunate to find one in unused condition - the first thing I noticed when opening the box was the amazing smell of leather!

How about Chan's handmade? Try that. I have ordered one too.

They said that their pen cases are big enough to accommodate even MB 149. :)

Tend to stick to experienced maker/brand for real leather product. A properly cured piece of leather for the application, well made and maintained one can last a lifetime or more.

Kind of why I decided on the Florence one after checking them out.

But, her fabric one looks nice.

Hi Meiers,

It got here yesterday and I love it! Wonderful workmanship, feel, and a perfect fit.

I am glad I picked the smooth black one, as it allows the pen to be highlighted nicely.

Now... if only I can find a good original 70s 18c 2 tone to partner up with it. My collection will be complete. :)

Hi David, mind me asking what the dimensions of the 149 are? I have another brand BIG pen and I was thinking of finding a 1-pen MB case to fit it.

Mine is a Waterman Edson which is 6" long and 5/8" at the widest of its cigar shape.

Thank you

Not sure if the 149 I currently have is the same size as the current ones.

5.94 inches with cap on and 0.68 inches at widest part of the cap (~0.8 including clip). Measured with a caliper while wrapped in one layer of thin cloth.

i tried looking for a 1 pen Florence case, but they seem to be rarer. I guess it is more popular and well used, so the ones I saw that were sold were in ok to "good" conditions. There might be one for sale some where, but I think it is brown/burgundy one with crocodile skin design. The smooth skinned one all looks pretty worn...

Thanks for doing that. Oh, your new case does look good!!!

I don't really mind what the colour is so I'll have a butcher's. If you notice any other brands of single-pen cases/tubes then give me a shout if you feel inclined. I basically want to carry the one pen and protect it from impact/scratches/the usual stuff...without it being too big that the pen rattles around in there.

Thanks again.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
