Pelikan M800 Tortoise Old Style

It's been for some time I have been searching for this pen and I consider myself very lucky to find it in a very good deal from the bay. Could be also due to the generalised auction title.

This illusive pen although in used condition is like new condition after some cleaning. The squeeky piston filler has been lubed and the old ink has been flushed out and filled with Onyx Edelstein ink. The 80s era nib is heavenly buttery smooth indeed.

Here a some photos of the pen.. Enjoy it..

Regards

Daeng

Congratulations on the fine catch.

The pictures looked stunning.

A truly nice example of the first release of the m800 in brown tortoise.

Very nice find. I prefer the old Pelikan M800s; the brown ones are very scarce.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Beautiful Daeng! Congrats on a great find. That's truly a keeper.

They are incredibly nice. I really miss a brown M400 in Pelikan's catalogue. Old nibs are probably better, but I'd rather buy a new one. This is the model I have in mind when I think about replacing my Cognac in the future. I'd love to see this model relaunched in 2016 or 2017. By the way, are all the caps dark brown? some of them black maybe?

Definitely all tortoises come with dark brown caps (also blind knobs).

Excellent assemblage! I have not yet seen the old style in person. Are you able to describe any differences in the appearance of the old style and newer edition bindes? Your photos are very good but it's not easy for me to tell the bindes apart. Also, I'm curious what the auction title was?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
