Diamine Blue Velvet

I think I like this ink best in finer nibs and on Tomoe River. In any event, it reminds me a lot of OMAS Blue:

I love this ink. Thanks for pointing out Omas Blue. I haven't tried that one, and if it's cheaper... My other favorite blue is Omas Roma 2000 which was a special edition ink of theirs from 15 years ago. I still have 2/3 of a bottle and very slowly dole it out to my pens. I bought Blue Velvet as perhaps an alternative. I should have thought of Omas' regular blue. And now I will.

Thanks!

Here's a shot of the OMAS:

The OMAS is little more expensive by the bottle, but much cheaper by the mL. It's also a really lovely ink.

That Bril does look really nice as well. Not quite as dark as Blue Velvet, but a nice, bright blue.

One thing I like about the Blue Velvet is that it is a little darker and looks so classy and refined.

Some nice alternative blues!

I don't currently have any Visconti, unfortunately, and it's been years since I've written with it. I want to say they're very similar, but I can't be more specific than that. Sorry!

Great review, thanks. Am tempted by the velvet, but I may go for the OMAS. I have a purple OMAS ink and it is an excellent colour with good saturation.

I enjoy using Blue Velvet, and it's been a great addition to my collection of blue inks. But now that you bring up Omas, I don't have any Omas inks in my collection, and the comparison is certainly a compelling one!

I just got a cheese slice of this in there new annoying 40ml bottles. H A T E

but this thread was what put it on my radar and it will go in the next pen that is empty.

I got it b/c I generally like Diamine and could not get Omas or Visconti blue.

I am really looking forward to it. That writing sample above is lovely.

oh ok.. I am just worried that like the visconti blue it might be too dark for an European fine nib to get a good shading..

I've used it in a Pelikan F and an Aurora M (which is about the same width as the Pelikan F), and I've had shading with both.

Great review, Thank you !

Honestly I love this shade of blue, just WOW

Even though is it not the kind of blue I would use for regular everyday-writing (I'm more into dark-teal blues for these purposes),

It is just awesome how it pops out of the page.. it is surely great ink for highlighting text etc.. :)

It's according perfectly to my definition of "vivid blue" & so it is tempting me, but do I need another blue ?

This is a love for me.. thanks.

#50shadesofbluechallenge (link to the hashtag on Instagram) is the hashtag for the ongoing challenge over at the German PenExchange forum for July & August 2020. Since I inked up all my pens for this challenge with all the 50+ blue inks I have I also want to share my snapshots here.

Blue Velvet and a fat Pilot Parallel Pen were a nice match.

Diamine's inks may have become sort of "boring" for some considering all the new exciting exotic inks, but revisiting my stash every once in a while (even if prompted by a silly challenge like ours :P ) is always good to rediscover what I already have.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
