I have a few rollerballs and ballpoints and pencils but less than a handful really. My nicest set is an green striped M400, R400, K400, and D400 all stamped W-Germany and bought around the time of the introduction of the pen in 82/83. I'm very happy to have that set but don't go looking for them and would never pay the prices being asked for today's ballpoints.

Having a Cognac I was tempted by the matching ballpen. I have not seen many of its kind, they were probably released with the Pelikan M200 Amber demonstrator years ago, but the color is the same as in the Cognac. It was not so expensive, but I decided not to buy it considering that I rarely use ballpens and that I already spent all my budget this year. A pity that I have not seen a matching pencil, in that case I would have make an exception and go for it with no doubt.

Anyway, I would like to know which refills you use in Pelikan ballpens. Is there any gel ink or similar? I do not know if standard (let's say 'Parker') refills can be used on them... In that case I do not discard a future purchase.

I generally like a matching ballpoint. Wish I could find one to match my Cognac demonstator!

I personally just use Pelikan's 337 refills.

Although I have two roller balls and ball points in the M2XX's most of the time if I want a different writing tool, I reach for a pencil. It bothers be that some of the special/limited pens only get ball points instead of pencils. 9 out of 10 times if I'm not using Fountain Pens, then I'm using a pencil! I'd always vote for PENCIL.

I always buy a matching ballpoint if it is available. I have a couple of the matching roller balls, but since I do not use them that much they always dry out on me. I prefer the gel fills in my bp's.

The 'Amber' ballpen was listed as NOS Pelikan K200 'Brown' on Ebay one month ago. I do not know if it will be relisted, as it seemed to be 2 available, and I would say that the listing expired before they were sold... But I may be wrong, I did not follow the item as I was not thinking on buying.

Thank you all. Great replies and my OP question answered. I have just pulled the trigger on a K200 green marble to go with my M200 which is a grey marble. Hopefully they will look ok together, though not a perfect match.

I understand that the Parker refills fit the Pelikan - is this correct ? (Pelikan refills may not be available in Sri Lanka where I live).

I have only two sets of pen & ballpoint pen (M/K 200 and M/K 400) I also have a single D200 pencil. I rarely write with ballpoint pens. So I may have about 5-6 of them, compared to my ~40 fountain pens. (Cheap disposable ballpoint pens not counted.)

I seldom use ball points, rotating the 6-8. Half are Jotters, plastic and metal.

I have a few matching ball points from the '50's and a @ '56 Pelikan BP 455 &MP 456?, that were in the lot I bought with my '56...friction fit feed 400nn.

Have a MB from back when MB made 2xx&3xx fountain pens and affordable ball points.

Occasionally, I use a ball point, if I have to make a quick click and go note.

My handwriting returns to horrible with use of a ball point.

My wife has a number of ball points that matched a pen I bought like my Townsend, or great Lamy ones I was given by the Realtor I bought my apartment from later, after he found out I liked fountain pens.

She of course don't take the good ball points to work, in fear of them being stolen.

These are middle '50's with the problems of the time. Stifts that are not align or points that do not retract. Austrian...Rusewe. Cork.....NOS. (If you get a cork NOS always soak the cork first in water.)

Hi,

I have matching BPs (plus Rollerballs and pencils) for some of my FPs, including a couple of vintage BPs a Tortoise stripe and Green stripe (late 50s/early 60s) which take the old style refills that most old BPs used to take before manufacturers made things complicated,

Lady luck must have been watching for me as I just found K200 ballpoints, in silver pearl and transparent brown. Not so good for the bank account though.

I use standard Parker refills in my Pelikans with no problem.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
