Several of the finishes at that price, but you gotta like broad nibs...though there are a few with different nibs at only slightly higher prices. Free shipping in U.S.

Amazon pricing is weird -- sometimes the VP is absurdly cheap, then it goes up again...So, if you follow this link tomorrow and find the prices much higher, please don't complain!

Amit, some of the colors with broad nibs are still $99. Quite a few of them, actually.

Interesting; a couple were still at US$99 until I logged into my account, after which the cheapest was $124+!! The prices of the others were confusingly variable (apart from the Raden.)

Ah, I see, the nib size reset to medium when I logged in. Still some at $99 now.

Happy to do so!

Every now and then, someone starts a thread asking if the Japanese market VPs are worth buying, as they are usually under $100 but have the "special alloy" nibs rather than gold. It's worth keeping an eye on Amazon, as occasionally you can get a standard gold-nibbed VP for under $100 - and free shipping and easy returns in case you get a dud. (But I've bought two this way and both are solid performers.)

Is Santa trading jp a reputable company? I've been deciding between a 2000 and a VP and this might tip me over the edge!

I have ordered many times from them and had no issues.

Now they're up to $140. Massdrop has it for $114.

I'm still seeing some options in the broad for $99. I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need one.

Mine arrived Wednesday and the B is a nice width for a Japanese B and it's plenty juicy. Thinking seriously about sending it to ArtsNibs for stubbing.

So why is it the one I liked is only $660? :(

Because you have EXCELLENT taste, I however chose the blue with rhodium accents in blue with a broad nib for $29.99 (but I cheated!) and free shipping. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
