Bexley Imperial In Purple Haze

I bought this off ebay a couple of weeks ago. It is a limited color run of this pen in this material. It is an acrylic material in cream with purple pearl swirls in it. It is very interesting and I really like it. I put in what I thought was a very low bid and never actually expected to win it, but I am very glad I did. It is a large pen, but feels great and writes beautifully.

Has anyone else seen other pens in this material? It is very different. My husband said it looks like a Picasso painting and now I seem to be thinking of him whenever I write with it.

I can also see the Picasso in it, it's very handsome though I can't help you with similar pens. May I request a picture of it next to a Lamy Safari or other common pen for a size reference? I am thinking of picking one up to go with my Poseidon Magnum II.

Thanks,

Venator.

Ted A, thank you for the link. It certainly looks like the same material.

Here is a comparison, for size, of the Bexley next to a Lamy All-Star.

Much appreciated, thank you. A good size, I will pick one up in a week if they are still available.

Do Bexley nibs differ from other JoWo nibs? I had assumed that they would be factory standard and identical to any other JoWo nib.

Mr. Levy has also sold Poseidon Magnum Prototypes in this material

  • 2 weeks later...

The Bexley Imperial is in a MassDrop today---there are five color options, including a limited 15 units in the Purple Haze:

https://www.massdrop.com/buy/bexley-imperial-custom?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Community%20-%20Writing%20-%20MAU%20%28Active%29&utm_campaign=Writing%20A%20Product%20Announcement%2007-24-15&mode=guest_open&referer=8DRCZ3

Price is at $149.99 right now, but if they hit the 75 units mark, it drops to $129.99.

Why are there fourteen samples of dark plum ink on my desk? Because I still haven't found the right shade.

Is that a problem...??? : : : sigh : : :

Update: Great. Finally found one I love (Lamy Dark Lilac) but I can't get more. Ah, life in my inky world....

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
