J Herbin - Stormy Grey

inkeverywhere

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow Australian FPNer's, am wondering if anyone knows of an Australian stockist of Herbin's 1670 Stormy Grey, especially one's that may ship. Notemaker seems to have the other colours in the 1670 range but not Stormy Grey.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you try JustWrite.com.au?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Yeah have tried their web site, they don't seem to carry J Herbin inks. Funny one reply and it comes from the US, thank you. The cost of shipping from overseas far outweighs the cost of the ink, seems being a J Herbin reseller in Australia could be a good idea!

If you can't find Stormy Grey in Australia, why not duplicate it yourself?

Instructions are in this thread from ThINKing Outside the Bottle: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/277454-experimenting-with-gold-powder/ Other threads in the Inky Recipes forum offer follow-up recipes. Lustre dusts work quite well.

I'd send Kevin of JustWrite an email. Maybe you can do a group buy? Especially with the new Emerald coming out soon??????

Notemaker.com.au (based in Melbourne; no affiliation) stock 1670 Rouge Hematite and Bleu Ocean, maybe you could ask the about Stormy Grey? They're a little pricey but service is excellent and shipping is free if you spend $69 I think.

I bought Stormy Grey & Bleu Ocean from Cult Pens (no affiliation) in the UK, as part of a larger order. Their shipping is reasonable if you're buying a few things, their service is amazing & my parcels usually arrive in 4 - 5 days.

I got mine from a German eBay seller and he shipped international to Canada at a very reasonable price.

Zany.co.nz based in New Zealand has them in stock. I'm assuming that since they are NZ based, shipping to Australia would be much less than from other countries.

Thanks. Not sure they ship internationally, however as I spend about 30% of my time in NZ, I may get some additional bottles shipped to my home there.

There is a Massdrop in play for 3 bottles (one of which has to be the new Emerald of Chivor) for $60 plus $10 shipping to Australia. I got the new emerald and two bottles of Stormy Grey.

Bookbinders Online also carry a limited range of J.Herbin cartridges at:

I had a bad experience with Massdrop a few months ago - ordered a pen, clarification of shipping date took months and then the "drop" was cancelled due to problems with the supplier. In short, I ordered and paid, months later money was refunded without hassle but no pen. I hope your experience is better but don't hold your breath. Bookbindersonline.com.au are good and Notemaker.com.au also have J. Herbin cartridges.

I read that they do, you just have to email them for a quote :)

Yikes! Good to know - this is my first experience with Massdrop. We'll see how it goes, appreciate the heads up.

I got a bottle of Stormy Grey from PensUltimate/Pens de Luxe in Sydney QVB only a fortnight ago, so maybe you could visit or email them and ask? They have several Brisbane stores. It's not up on their web store, so it would appear to be only available in-store.

Thank you one and all. I will try the The Pen Shoppe (Pens de Luxe Group) in Brisbane as I visit them frequently otherwise Zany of NZ will be the option as their website says they ship to Australia.

I truly appreciate your replies.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
