I don't know if the Northern is going ahead - there's not a great deal of discussion as usually is so caveat that, but it's listed on Antiques Atlas at: http://www.antiques-atlas.com/antique_fair/northern_pen_show_doubletree/af1082

Hope all well & have a good weekend.

R

The Northern Pen Show takes place this coming Sunday at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Chester and its absolutely packed to the rafters with dealers so it's going to be a fun show. Looking forward to seeing everyone there on Sunday !)am start.

It all looks good to go Roger, I am sure Ian would have flagged up any issues.

Hoping for a great day.

Looking forward to seeing you there Graham.

Excellent news. Just hadn't heard the usual "who is going" discussions hence my caveat. No offence intended and, if I may, Ian thanks for your hard work (and that of your colleagues) in putting this and all the other events together.

Best,

R

I won't be there till about 12:30 I'm afraid. Maybe a bit sooner if the vicar doesn't ramble on for too long with his sermon. If anybody's shooting a video there this year best do it in the forenoon as I ticked the box for no publicity. Anybody opened a book, yet, on what colour Carol's hair is going to be? I haven't seen her on town lately so i don't have any inside information.

I'm looking forward to going to one of these pen shows. Do they have nib services such as nib meisters there who can tune nibs on the spot?

John Sorowka is usually at shows, but please don't refer to him in his hearing as a nib meister. A nib fettler, nib technician yes.

Excellent show.

I spent money, bought pens, bought ink, caught up with old friends and had a good time.

What else is there to say?

It was a very enjoyable show and the attendance 'looked' good. As always it was good to meet up with friends for a chat and look with envy at some of the pens on display.

No problem, there is usually an 'early bird' entry where you can get in from 09:00, not entirely sure of the advantage of that though, no low priced worms to be had at that time as a general rule, although a little bit quieter than after 10:00. The show gets busy, particularly if its anything like the last few years when there seems to be an increasing number of people towing wheelie cases.

A plea to the organisers - it might be better and avoid trips and falls if people with cases could be persuaded to leave the cases behind WES reception or better still with the hotel concierge.

If you havent been to the London Show before there is a good Pret a Manger, in front of Russell Square underground, and 2 minutes walk from the hotel for coffee, breakfast and snacks.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
