Leather Agenda/diary/etc

Hello all!

I just thought I would stop by and share with you my new "setup" for my daily cary 149.

At the beginning of this year I was researching leather briefcases to start off my graduate degree program, and I found Bosca (Italian turned American company based in Ohio I think). It is definitely upper end (read: "expensive"...relative to what a college student would normally pay for a bag).... But it is undoubtedly the highest quality leather stuff I have ever had. I now have a briefcase, writing pad cover, business card holder, wallet, and the newest agenda holder. All in beautiful matching Amber color.

I didn't review any of the other pieces here because they aren't really fountain pen related, but the agenda cover I'm using as my traveling writing "thing", so I thought some of you might be interested.

I took out the calendar and address book that came with it (which are moderately FP friendly if you decide to keep it), and spent a good deal of money ordering different notebooks from Goulet and amazon in the search for the perfect setup, which I have found! I went through lots of brands (Claire, Exact, etc) and sizes and models (spiral, stapled, etc), and this is what it came down to: A Rhodia Webnotebook for journaling, and a Rhodia spiral bound notebook for notes/random writing/etc. I was happy to see that the webbie fit inside the leather slot, although I did take care to condition the leather and stretch it a little with cardboard overnight just to be sure.

In addition to my notebooks I found that I can keep my Kindle Voyage in the left slot. So I really have my writing/reading all in one place!

As for the pen, the space in the middle where it would normally go is taken up by the notebooks. But I have found that the closure strap has just enough room to slide the 149 in and keep it secure. It is still 'exposed', but I'm not too worried. In the event of a fall It looks like the only part that would touch the ground would be the clip. And honestly I kind of like being able to see the pen whenever I glance at the book :)

If I could change anything I would probably make the left side have a horizontal slot so my spiral Rhodia could just slip in an not be "loose". Also, the left side lining is leather, but the right side lining is a black sort of nylon. Still very nice, but would prefer leather all around. I read in previous reviews that it used to be leather, so I'm not sure why they changed that (cost Id guess).

So overall I am really very happy. Definitely the best setup i've ever owned. And it's really kind of reasonably priced given the cost of their other pieces. I got it for $112 shipped (with discount for signing up for newsletter). So check it out if you think it might work for you too! I would imagine you could do an iPad mini instead of a kindle, and other brands of notebooks can be used for the "loose" notebook (the spiral Rhodia was just a good match, whereas the webbie was really the only lay-flat book I found that fit properly in the agenda).

I just saw there is a specific "review" part of the paraphernalia section so if a moderator could move this there I would appreciate it!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
