That's a really tough one. I'd say that overall I like my Sheaffer Valor the most... but I have quite a few others that I like about the same, like a Parker Duofold Senior from around 1927, a Sheaffer Balance OS Vac from around 1940, and a Parker Vacumatic Maxima also from around the early 1940s.

Brand: Sheaffer

Version: Valor

Color: Deep Blue

Agreed. I have 200-odd pens and the fancy strikes me differently every day. I love my Aurora 88, my Sheaffer Balance, my Parker Vacumatic, my Sailor Realo, to just mention a few of my favorites off the top of my head.

But right now I am using a Retro 51 Lincoln pen that is extraordinarily pleasant to write with, as is the Waterman's C/F, so right now they are kind of my favorites.

Using right now:

Visconti Voyager 30 "M" nib running Birmingham Streetcar

Jinhao 9019 "EF" nib running Birmingham Railroad Spike

Pelikan M1000 "F" nib running Birmingham Sugar Kelp

Sailor King of Pens "M" nib running Van Dieman's Heemskerch and Zeehaen

My 1950's Pelikan 400 with a flexible oblique broad nib. It is super smooth and makes my handwriting look great.

Sweet! I also love my Aurora 88. I bought it last year and ever since I use it at least once a day if not more. What type of ink do you use?

My favorite today?

Bexley

Poseidon Magnum II

Blue Bamboo Acrylic

It's an american made piston filler with a very pleasing design and amazing acrylic. I have found that it loves Lamy Bl/Blk and the shading just goes with the pen.

I decided not to carry it today and regretted the decision.

What's a thread like this without pictures?

The one I'm writing with.

This is like asking a parent "whose your favorite child?"

If you have a favorite get rid of the others. You've made them second-class pens.

I like to learn about the characteristics of each pen and their nuances in handing ink, nib performance (size, material, flex, etc), etc

If, by chance, two or three members use the same pen you'll probably have two or three different opinions

A thought-provoking question. It's not just a pen. It's you.

I also have lots of favorite pens. It depends on what I'm doing. I need a fine or extra-fine nib for use at work, but I have been carrying a stub nib, too for signatures. There are some pens that I prefer if I have a long writing session, others are suitable only for short missives.

And it changes over time. For several years, I used Pilot M90s almost exclusively at work. Then I started using Pilot Custom 823s. Lately I have been taking Sailor Realos. A Conid Bulkfiller, Waterman Exception, or Omas Milord comes along for signature duties.

These are all very nice pens. I would hate to have to choose a favorite. And once I did, I would soon choose another.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Not sure I could name a favorite, but here's the one pen I've kept inked constantly for the last six months or so.

Nice.

Love the ink rag, too. What is it?

Waterman Phileas with a medium nib. Smooth, reliable, and comfortable to write with. What more can you ask?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
