Sweet, I have a vintage De La Rue Onoto the Pen that was manufactured some time in the mid to late 30's I think about 1937. I keep it at work so do not have a photo of it today.

Enjoy your pens!

That's terrible Goudy.

Meanwhile I have mixed feelings as I put up for sale the Onoto I mentioned earlier in this thread. So I used it today (to keep on topic) just producing a writing sample!

If you include that writing sample in the listing, you should get an excellent price!

Mine wasn't as flexy, but it had the overfeed and some pretty gold bands. It may turn up.

Using my Royal Ruby Onoto today, inked with Corn Poppy Red (MB).

For photo see above, First Post.

The Ruby is a gorgeous colour. I didn't even know about it until it was sold out which niggled a bit!

It is the sort of thing they need to do more of, preferably in larger editions too so that those with limited funds can save up.

If they could do the same in blue, green and possibly orange crush, they would have many, many takers I'm sure.

Regards,

Richard.

I think they did a Jade and a very light blue?

I put a bid in on it and then suddenly realised who was listing. My bad. Going to be out of my league (then again, what isn't, he he?)

Oh I agree, if they ever get back to manufacturing pens and come up with a blue and green version similar to the Royal Ruby, I would be very poor very quickly.

The pale blue and the jade did nothing for me, and the error in the chasing for the purple Asprey edition really put me off (and I have checked my blue Chased Magna and could not see a similar flaw, so I'm curious as to what happened with the purple one)

Back on topic - Magna Classic in Royal Ruby (Edelstein Onyx) and Magna Classic in chased blue (Diamine Midnight).

Yes. The Jade was a colour really like real jade - which was a problem. I think the stone always looks washed out and a rich green is what's needed. A bit like this blank: http://www.theturnersworkshop.co.uk/shop/pen-blanks/acrylic-blanks/green-crushed-velvet.html

The blue would have to be this one (well, similar in colour) http://www.theturnersworkshop.co.uk/shop/pen-blanks/acrylic-blanks/blue-crushed-velvet.html The light blue they did was too tentative for me.

As for the orange crush: http://www.theturnersworkshop.co.uk/shop/pen-blanks/acrylic-blanks/orange-crushed-velvet.html Remember any Delta pens using this?

Sorry, today's pen is my Black & silver chased Magna Classic.

Regards,

Richard

Thank you Richard :)

I like the material shown in the links very much. I rather liked the Onoto jade, but the blue did nothing for me and I far prefer the rich colour of the "crush" version.

I had a Delta Dolce Vita which had a barrel made of the orange crush and a pelikan 320 which is similar but transparent. The Orange can be a little overpowering in a big pen (particularly I would think if the cap is made of the same material), of course YMMV.

Wish I had an Onoto. Have seen a nice used ruby red for sale. If it is still available at a sensible price I may try and snag it at the LWES show this year so

I can make a neaningful contribution to this thread :D

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
