Many Bungbox inks are available at Vanness. Given the usual lengthy Massdrop process, I would recommend Vanness for their rapid, yet very personal, service.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Massdrop action and ++thanks for suggesting Vanness! I have been meaning to get my paws on that ink (and that ink on my paws).

  • 3 weeks later...

The Bungbox Massdrop started about 2 hours ago and looks to be about 1/3 of the way sold already (600 bottles available).

They are offering a 2-Pack selection for $71.10 (US) + shipping.

The inks being offered:

Blue-Black

Dandyism

Fujiyama Blue

Ink of the Witch

Norweigan Wood

Piano Mahogany

Ruby

Sapphire

Tempted, but a little too rich for me right now - maybe if they had Sweet Potato Purple available.

Honestly... the savings are not there for me. If you have never experienced BungBox and you are dying to get your hands on a couple of bottles, then is a good deal. Especially if for some reason you couldn't buy from Vanness.

For me, buying straight from Japan is more economical.

Note, the Bung Box bottle is being substituted with the standard squat Sailor bottle to make this offering work.

Agreed, this drop is only good for those outside the USA, unable to order directly from Japan, and unwilling to wait.

Well, if you've been following this thread, you'll find that some Japan exclusive inks are suffering availability issues do to the diamond shaped bottle not being available to Sailor at this point in time. To try and meet the Massdrop demand, they're using the non-exclusive Sailor bottles for the drop, but I'm not sure they will use it beyond that since the diamond shaped bottle is, for many, a huge part of the charm of Japan exclusives. Though, I could care less.

Vanness's stock has disappeared, but have stated that they may get the inks back in in December, Sailor claims the issue should be resolved by January 2016, but contacts in Japan have told me that they they do not know when inks will become available again once sold out (due to the bottling matter). Even Bungbox's website is beginning to reflect availability issue.

The Massdrop of Bungbox may be the only chance to buy some of its inks for a few months. Hopefully the matter resolves sooner than later.

Thank you for this! It is indeed my first purchase of BungBox ink and I don't actually mind not getting the bottle. Delivery date is stated as September 10, 2015. I don't have a problem with this either. The ink I'm most after is the Sapphire and Vanness never had availability whenever I looked.

Vanness is also selling their remaining stock on their website.

I'm glad I jumped on Vanness when I did. Pity they're not offering Eel - it's my new favorite ink.

Vanness has Eel. B)

At some point today, for like 5 minutes, they had Ink of Witch and Tears of a Clown before it sold out. Meh.

What ink can you compare Eel to? Most of the sample images I've seen, the image quality is often too dark for me to get a real sense of the color.

Vanessa has Ink of Witch and Tears of Clown up again.

Thanks for the heads up!

Eel is a reddish brown - very much the same color as the sauce they put on eel sushi. Somewhere between Diamine Oxblood and Iroshzuku Yama-guri. It shades like mad.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
