No ink window? Will the barrel be translucent (is the GP's)?

The description on FPH says an ink window is present, but I agree that I don't see it. It would be a first to have an M2xx pen without an indication of ink level. I thought that there might be some translucency to the barrel but I guess we have to wait until August to know for sure.

Apart from the section which is firmly affixed to the barrel...how hard would it be to swap the piston knob and cap for those of a cafe creme to emphasise the brown theme. The cap is obviously dead easy, but the piston knob...?

In the uncapped image from FPH, you can see the ring behind the section threads where the barrel is epoxied to the section. I suspect the material is somewhat translucent.

Such a gorgeous pen, especially with Waterman Havana Brown...but with other Pelikans in the aviary and a $22 shipping charge to the UK...I'm going to have to think about it.

I didn't think that was at all bad for shipping. I've been charged more than that to ship from France!

I suppose it isn't terrible. However, I'm a fountain pen 'user' not a 'collector' so I have a hard time justifying $200 on a pen that is mechanically equivalent to a £45 M200 from amazon.de Although it has been a little difficult to get my hands on an italic nib...

I saw the pen at FPH today - they have a sample to look at - and it is very nice indeed. The sleeve looks polished, has a cellulose acetate resin look, and lights up like a diamond in the otherwise humble M200 housing. IMO very special and I put in a pre-order. Not payable until they arrive.

Pelikan is so slow that it will probably be September - the ideal time for a new pen. In the meantime, I grabbed an Aurora Optima 365 in brown - and have a bit of time to recover from the price tag. 😔

Calabria, tell us whether the pen barrel is translucent to see the ink level...

Thanks for the report. Glad to hear it. I'm even more excited now.

Honestly, I didn't look for an ink window. The resin looks too dark to see the ink through - I found it to be comparable to much more expensive "swirl" pens - some recent SE Auroras come to mind - not entirely opaque but calling it translucent would be a stretch. I did check the thickness of the resin and looked at it against the light to check the reflection and it definitely looked polished like a much more expensive pen. (I'm a bit of a cellulose acetate nerd!)

The blue swirl in the brown is very special. I'm not really a fan of this kind of swirly resin, but in this Pelikan it jumped out at me - it looks like a bespoke version. So I was immediately drawn to it! 😍

I just heard from a friend who ordered one that he received a shipping notification today from FPH.

So much for August or September.

I just ordered one. I hadn't seen it until today when FPH sent out an email advertising it. I am glad I didn't miss it. I missed the Grand Place, and while this won't totally make up for it, it will help :)

Can't wait to see it in person.

Mine shipped today too. In a way that is bad because I ordered an EF and was meaning to change to an italic, but I thought I had plenty of time to do it. Oh, well, EF is fine too :)

Am in luck as Edwin of FPH confirms that mine hasnt shipped and will do the exchange to italic once the pen in italic arrives this Monday.

That's great news that they're shipping already - should arrive in plenty of time for the Hubs then!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
