Then say why, please. Or just elucidate, wax poetic, or rant.

I love my (one) Pelikan, I love my (one) Mont Blanc, I love my (many) Sheaffers, I love my (few) Parkers, I love my (couple) Lamys, I love my ...

I'm polycalamus, and proud of it. (even if the latin is my made-up word)

I like both MB and Pelikan pens, if I had to go with only one it would be MB.

It's better.... just sayin'

I have tried neither. I am more drawn to Pelikan though. Montblanc has the feel of being marketed to business executives who want a status symbol without knowing better. It's a little offputting.

I just ordered my third Parker 51 out of only seven above-entry-level-quality pens but I still wouldn't want to wed myself to a brand.

I'm indifferent to my (2) Montblancs. They're usually out rotation, just sitting in a pencil box with all the other benched pens.

I LOVE my (5) Pelikans. They are ALL in rotation. I'm a slave driver with them, rarely giving them time off.

But I also love my (dozen) Lamys. However not more than Pelikan to choose the "Neither, I love my..." option of the poll. I just have more Lamys because buying those are easier on the pocketbook.

Don't be wary of the hype, MB is that good. And Parker 51s are awesome. And so are Pelikans. And many more brands.

While I do love Montblanc pens I only have a few Fountain pens that are Montblanc. Most of my Montblancs are ballpoints or pencils.

When it comes to fountain pens Onoto is what I use. I love these pens. I have more Onoto fountain pens than any other brand.

The nibs are silky smooth and write like a dream right out of the box, and the box they come in is top notch, I have seen none better, not even Montblanc give anything near as nice.

Coming in second would be Conway Stewart, so you can say I am a British pen lover.

I love the feel of Pelikans and I tend to like the aesthetic style of them more. I've also felt that Pelikans are a better bang for the buck. Maybe I'll become a Montblanc fan in the future when I have some more disposable income :)

There's a neologism I'll adopt, and perhaps abuse further. Polycalamamorous?

I don't own any MBs, but I've handled a couple of 149s, two or three 144s and a Starwalker, and I think I still lean towards my Pelikans (and the biggest of that bunch a mere M600). This is not simple sour grapes, even as admitting I don't own any MBs because they're out of reach-- there is an element of "they're nice, but not $that$ nice" to it, but also subjective preference which denies justification-- the heart has reasons the mind wots not of.

Perhaps I've not met the right MB yet, although the Starwalker was pretty close. Until then, I'll have to take comfort from the M600, the "51", the 75, the Valiant(s), the Imperial Triumph, the Citation, the Carene... and all the others.

Honest answer, much appreciated by this MB (and others) fan.

I have strong views on the subject based on a very small data sample. I have two small Pelikans, both of which are excellent modern pens--about as good as a modern, smooth and undistinguished pen can get. I keep them in the rotation.

I have on MB 146 which is a mess. It has been to the factory twice, at my expense, because of design errors that led to leaking. Other than that, it is a decent but unremarkable modern pen.

So based on experience I prefer Pelikan.

From an emotional standpoint, I find Pelikan's matter-of-fact image refreshing, and I am offended by the silly, and frankly dishonest, presumptuousness of MB's public image. But that has nothing to do with the pens themselves.

Love them both but a simple head count seems to say that I like Pelikans more!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
