Montblanc Cruise Rb- Loose Cap Experience

Greetings All!

I was recently given a Montblanc Cruise Rollerball as a wedding gift. After the initial joy of owning my first Montblanc, I noticed the cap which spins on the pen with little resistance, also has a slight in and out motion (when closed). I sent it into Montblanc, and they replaced the cap packing, however upon receiving it back, it feels exactly the same.

Even though the Cruise is the value collection of Montblanc, I sill expected more. As I have much cheaper pens with perfect cap fitment. A loose pen cap drives me crazy but maybe I am I being too meticulous. Anyone have any experiences they can share or is this normal?

Thanks!

Chad

Is it a Screw on cap or does it click closed?

Do you live near a boutique or authorized reseller? If you do you can stop by and check out the current Cruise line and see if they have the same issue. Then bring it up to the salesperson this possible issue.

Its a click close cap.

Wish I did, closest one is in Houston. But I will keep that in mind next time I'm traveling.

Unfortunately, receiving your item back from Montblanc service doesn't necessarily mean that it is fixed. It sounds very likely that your pen was worked on and sent back with the same problem, which has happened to me each time I have sent something in for service (in the U.S.). This is especially likely if the problem is from a part, as someone may have swapped out one bad part for another bad part. I would return the pen to MB service explaining what you are looking for in the end result and clearly ask that the person fully test the pen to ensure the problem has been fixed and that no additional problems have been created. The Cruise line uses a unique cap system different from other Montblanc rollerballs. I have yet to hold one in person so I cannot provide much more help about the specifics :(

Congratulations on both accomplishments and I hope you get this resolved!

I keep thinking about selling some of my pens but all that happens is I keep acquiring more!

My Cruise performs exactly like yours. The cap is a little bit loose, quite different from the Meisterstuck.

Thanks for the replies! And yes, I'm thinking this is just the way the cap probably fits on the pen. Unfortunately, it will probably just end up in my pen case

Well I am sorry to hear that :( I also sent a pen to MB service saying the cap had a problem and they actually called to tell me that nothing was wrong as opposed to replacing something that wasn't broken. So I'm surprised if they did replace parts after determining the pen is fully functioning. In my previous issue, I also found out that it was a wide spread issue with the model. So others may have the same experience but it may mean they also have the same defective product.

  • 3 months later...

Maybe slightly late but to add my two pence worth- I have just bought myself the Bordeaux Cruise Collection RB and the cap fits tight and positively resists any movement when on the pen and feels of the same quality as my Meisterstuck Classique FP so it definitely shouldn't be like that!

Hope that helps!

Jack.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
