Fairy Wings, Ink & Dust Mix

Recommended Posts

This is a mix of Noodler's Heron Blue + Key Lime Dust.

This combo actually changed the color of the ink. But, it looks really pretty. It's now my favorite. It also reminds me a little of the Gray Interference.

The words above that say Blue Heron, is the Blue Heron ink unchanged. The words beneath it with the blue green color is the Fairy Wings.

That is pretty. Did you use equal parts of each?

I used about 2ml of ink to about less than an 1/8 of a tsp of Key Lime dust.

Note / Update - doesn't work too well with a fine nib that's dry. But, my pen with a fine nibs that tends to be wet, has been no issue.

That is really pretty. Noob question though... what is key lime dust? Where can I get it?

Life isn't always what you make it. Sometimes it just falls in your lap and you have to deal with it.

It's a mica powder. I actually purchased it years ago from a company that no longer exists. I'm actively searching for an alternative because I really like this combo.

My apologies if you've already answered this question a dozen times: does the dust cause you any difficulty when cleaning your fountain pens? Or is this a dip-pen-only recipe? Regardless, this and the other dust inks you've posted are quite awesome.

Thank you for that kind compliment.

I have been using this in fountain pens. I've had no issues with cleaning them. I soak the feed and nib for a little bit. But, they seem to clean rather well. What I am noticing is that if I use a lot of mica, it doesn't work so well with my fine nibs. It works great with the medium nibs. And if they're a bit wet, even better. The thicker line shows a nice variation with the ink against the mica.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
