Sorry.......another Question.

I`m sorry but I have yet another question about a Sheaffer pen, actually a Sheaffer Desk Set. The numbers on the box says it is WO6 then 48106. The set has a fountain pen and a ballpoint. The nib does not have anything on it that I can see. The ballpoint has a white dot. As you can see from the very poor photo I have the box with the paper work. The registration and the guarantee. The registration number is P No.84131.

My question is do I have much of anything other than a very good writing fountain pen?

Thanks for your patience and your help.

Picture of the nib? That looks like the 70's, in the Textron days.

I doubt you have anything more than a pen. Whether it's a "good writing fountain pen" is dependent upon whether it writes well or not. Probably a cartridge.

Does it have an inlaid nib? If so, then it's most like a good writing fountain pen. If not, then it's just likely. (since it's still in the box and not likely to have been too abused)

Whether it's anything special, no, not really. Nothing more special than any other modern Sheaffer c/c fountain pen.

Nice "Mad Men" kind of vibe, though. Now you just need to let your sideburns grow, wear a knit turtleneck sweater and flaired plaid slacks, and you're all set.

Thanks for the reply. You got it right on the pen, nib is inlaid, is from Textron (name is on box ) and it does use the cartridge. It does write well and has been taken care of. Thanks again for the reply.

The pen on the left does not seem to fit properly in the tulip. If that is the ball point all should work fine but it may not be original to the set.

That`s a good eye. However what appears to be space or a bad fit is actually a plastic insert in the tulip. It also has a label on the outside stating that it is to be used for the pencil or the ballpoint. The fountain pen side has an insert also but it is place a bit deeper in the tulip. I suppose this is for the sealing properties of the tulip.

Thanks for the comments.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
