It's that heavy two-tone sheen that does it.

In this ink, you have both a dye based chromatic Red sheen and a gold flake based metallic Yellow sheen. Combined with the regular ink colour it gives you Red, Yellow, Green/Blue. Rainbow in a bottle.

Your description is spot on :)

I have tried it in Fine Kakuno and the sheen is not as wild as with wet broad nib, but sparkles do come out veeeery well!

To get the rainbow you will need a combo of good paper, wet pen and pool of ink (TWSBI 580G 1.1mm + Tomoe River on the picture below)

...thought it would be useful to share ;)

I called Dromgoole's and placed an order.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I am seriously desperate for this ink. I'm set up for three bottles, but WHEN WILL I GET THEM? <sigh>

Where did you order, Saskia? - if you don't mind me asking

Cyber6 tells me that LackOfInky is not fatal, but I'm not convinced. I'm sure it's contagious.

I wouldn't call them "unsafe". I just use a little additional caution. There is particulate matter in the ink. That's what makes it interesting. I wouldn't let it dry up in a pen. I would flush a pen with water after using it and between refills. I also wouldn't use it in a pen that I can't take apart to clean.

Just use a little care and they are wonderful and beautiful inks. You have seen all the oohs and ahhhs in the posts above.

Obviously, Blackhorse was being sarcastic lol, but yes, I have the Bleu Ocean and I keep it in my pens for a couple weeks - granted, I write with every inked pen every other day at the minimum, but yes, when it runs out I take the pen apart and do a full rinse...nothing hard-core, just a rinse - unless I'm changing color, then I will gently scrub to make sure all ink is clear, but I do that with all inks when changing color.

I bought 2 bottles on the Massdrop special - I'm so very patiently (kinda lol) waiting for the arrival!!

I have used Bleu Ocean in vintage and modern pens, xf gold nibs to the wet Jinhao nibs... The xf gold vintage I did rinse the nib after the day, only because it's so teeny tiny.

No problems whatsoever!

But yes, I agree with Blackhorse, stay far far away from this devil of an ink!!! (So that it nay run out of stock lol)

Dag....nabbit! - that's just greedy!!! :P

I hope you're going to use one bottle to reverse engineer it and synthesize many more for the rest of us poor single-bottle schmucks :bawl:

:P

It's just that in my country, inks like J.Herbin, Pilot, sailor etc. aren't available. So I tend to order from outside in slightly larger quantities. A couple of these bottles are for my friends.

I have ordered a total of 12 bottles.

The Massdrop for this ink expired a few days ago but if enough people request a new drop they could open it up again. I put my request in last night, you only need to hit a button. They want 200 requests and we are at 149 so if you'd like to receive three different (or the same) J. Herbin 1670 inks, including Emerald, please do it!

Thank you for the offer. I have never really used massdrop before. Can you tell me what's the price I am looking at per bottle of I go with massdrop?

The shop were I am ordering from is giving me Euro 14.7 minus whatever their VAT is since I live outside EU. But they have this ridiculously expensive shipping which I have refused to pay for and asked for EMS or registered parcel post. I am okay with receiving it 10 days later than paying stupid prices for shipping. At the end of the day, I am getting the same ink.

I don't know what the Massdrop prices or shipping would be. That information seems to disappear once the drop ends. Maybe someone who took advantage of this drop could tell us. Suffice it to say that if we get 200 requests and they turn it back on then we'll find out. If it's not competitive you are under no compulsion to buy. So it wouldn't hurt to hit that Request button.

Thanks for the tip. I'll sign up for the current drop although i want 12 bottles in total. Can that be done?

I'll ask the seller whom I have already paid to transfer the money to massdrop account since she is insisting on using ultra expensive post and not undervaluing the items for postage.

I'll give up the limited edition inks I am getting.

Edit: she has given me the refund option.

Not sure multiple orders are allowed, I bet they aren't but I've never bought anything on Massdrop. Anyway we're now at 157 requests, only 43 to go!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
