I have a few Waterman pens (Le Man 100, 200, Opera and an Executive), and a few (all identical) converters that are more or less original to the pens or from about the same era.

In the Opera and others the threaded converter forms a tight seal...but in one pen (the Le Man 100) the same converter is loose--to the point that it seems as though it could fall out.

As far as I was aware the Opera is just a fancier body on the same Le Man 100 base. So I don't understand why the converter would fit any differently. Any insights? and where might I be able to get Waterman converters that fit these pens perfectly these days? A few of the converters became brittle and failed so I would like to acquire a few more and have read that some of the universal replacements do not offer a perfect snug fit.

I recall that Waterman had a converter recall. You may have one of the recalled converters. They won't kill you, like a Takata airbag, just annoy you. I'd buy a new converter first.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Dear Frank C,

The exact same converter works perfectly in the Opera...but when removed from the Opera and placed in the Le Man 100 it is loose. So the issue seems to be the pen not the converter...or else a pen/converter imperfect match in the 100.

1) should the Le Man 100 and Opera use identical converters ?  I assumed yes but am asking if that is a mistaken assumption

2) where can I now buy the best fitting converter to replace the ones that are breaking? and will it fit my 100 with a tight seal?

They are essentially the same pen. They should take the same converter. I'm not sure what's wrong with your pen. Have you tried a Waterman cartridge?
