Some New Pens And New Material Options

Carl Fisher - F3 Pens

I've had a lot going on recently and much of it centers around new pen designs and new material selections.

I had a rare opportunity to purchase a decent amount of vintage celluloid / cellulose acetate spiral wrapped rods. Some of which only seem to pop up on the market once or twice every few years. A handful of lizard in red, blue and green varieties, some blue and gold herringbone and several others. Because these rods are fixed sizes on the outer and inner diameter, the material dictates the pen design which spawns the creative juices.

The first pen was made to showcase the red lizard and show how beautiful this stuff looks when polished up and finished. A red lizard in a design that has yet to find a name but will become a permanent option in our lineup. Fine threads on an ebonite section with a small step higher up the barrel to allow for the flush closing of the cap. This particular pen is designed to have a roll stopper installed of the buyers choosing.

NIB Choices

All 3 of these pens use the #6 (#35) JoWo nib section and are available in your choice of EF, F, M, B, 1.1 stub and 1.5 stub nibs.

For an additional charge, 14k or 18k nibs may also be available depending on line weight selection and supplier availability as well as custom grinds through Pendleton Brown.

Lastly if you haven't done so, please take a moment to bookmark my website. I've done a complete redesign to the front end blog that will talk more about the behind the scenes craftsmanship of our pens. From blog articles to a feed directly from our Instagram page, this is a great way to keep up with what's going on in the shop.

A few more recent creations. First up is a mini with threaded posting. This little pen packs a big punch. Threading the cap on the back creates a full sized pen while staying compact and portable while closed. Crafted from a cracked ice resin that emulates the look of vintage cebloplast complete with the occasional flecks of blue. This pen uses a smaller #5 sized nib.

Price: $150

And the time has come to show a little love to the ballpoint fiends out there. We call this model The Bishop. A simple and classy click ballpoint pen that uses any of the Parker compatible refills. A reliable Schmidt click mechanism tops off these pens to provide faithful service for years to come.

Price range: $75-125 based on material choice.

Price in Gold Herringbone celluloid: $100

Those lizard materials are gorgeous! And the black with the gold veins going through it. Look forward to seeing the pens that will be made from those rods.

Some of those are just gorgeous. Keep up the good work.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Thanks :)

I can't wait to see a few of these as finished pens but since I only have a limited supply I'm torn between making them or holding them for custom orders.

The red lizard pen in my collection would be nice :)

That one didn't last long once the picture started to make it's rounds. I'm debating making another similar to it from the green or blue lizard skin.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
