Wow, this drop ended fast! I thought the drops lasted 7 or 8 days before closing. I was going to ask about the R&K Iron Gall inks.

For whoever missed out on last time, the R&K drop is back on for a few days (or until they hit the limit again). Everything is available and currently in stock, except for Sepia. I just picked up 6... and officially admit I have an ink collecting problem ;)

I picked up Alt-Goldgun, Salix and Solferino after checking my current inventory of R&K inks (and discovered that I already have Scabiosa, but haven't opened it yet).

Now, the only R&K inks I don't have are: Helianthus (yellow), Blau Permanent (blue), Sepia (brown) and Leipziger Schwarz (black). I'm not interested in black ink (someday, I might see the light?) and I'm not sure when I'd be able to use a bright yellow ink like Helianthus. Sepia was not available for this round on MassDrop. And I'm indifferent to Blau Permanent. I love Verdigris, which I already have.

I have more ink than I could ever use in my lifetime.

Dear All

i would just like the feedback before i purchase the ink, whether these inks are harmful to the pens. Given by its demand it cannot be, however i remeber reading on a website that Caligraphy ink, contains some particles which may harm the FP if used at least on a prolonged basis.

The link to that article

I note that R&K on its website shows caligraphy ink separate from writing ink.

But just wanted to double check

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
