Ebay Listing of Pen

This will be my first Pelikan and I can't wait a flexible, extra fine nib, good conditioned vintage pelikan pen!! Any input on other people's expierences with the 140? *(Oh a sidenote: are vintage pens considered all pens up to the 1990s, what is the generally accepted time period for a pen to be called vintage?)

The pictures look great, although I don't know if it said anywhere that they were actual pics of the pen for sale. I guess I'm cautious, or maybe paranoid? ;) I hope it works out well.

Edit: You know, that price sounds a little too good for a 14k nib. I hope it is legit.

Yea, I hope it is legit too, my reasoning behind this is that if the seller puts a lot of pens with no reserve that many of them may get insanely high and pay for the others sold below value. There were many other pens by this seller which were very high in price, I am pretty excited by this new pen of mine, now all I have to do is wait...... :)

Your "First" Pelikan??

I would have guessed from your avatar and the photo of the pen in your signature that you have many Pelikan Pens :P

I had the Pelikan in your signature line, the Concerto. It's the same size as the 800. The 800 is just a tad too small for me to not post the pen, and with all the beautiful lacquer work and notes on the pen, I just couldn't risk posting this one. I purchased it for $425 and was able to resell it for $475. If it fits your hand without a need for posting, it's a lovely pen.

One thing always bothered me about this pen also, it's called the "Concerto" yet the musical notes are from Beethoven 9th Symphony, "Ode to Joy". ;)

"Vintage" will be defined differently by various pen people. Some will say around 1960 and before. I'm one that would call a pen vintage up to the 1990s.

Congrats on the 140!

I'm sure you will like the 140. I show here the picture which has my all time favorite, and some "johnny-come-lately" which my wife grabbed as soon as it arrived. That's just as well, because the 140 writes rings around the Shanghai...

Hi Tim,

Congratulations on your purchase! Please let us know how it all works out, maybe even do a little review after its arrival?

I have not yet recieved it yet, but another auction ended today with virtually the same ad by the same seller sold the exact same pen exept a change from ex to near mint, but otherwise no changed wording in selling.

I bought mine at 41 dollars, the one that ended today sold at 77 dollars!!!

That makes me feel like I truly did get a good deal

and also all of the feedback has been great, and the pictures have been said to match with the product extremely well.

I am getting really excited for this one!

Congrats Tim,

That is a terrific price for a 140. I sold mine a few months ago and it was tough to part with. They are terrific pens.

I did buy a modern 800 which I like a lot. So I'm not birdless

And I still have one Go and a 200 with a Binderized stub that I won't part with.

Enjoy!

Regards,

Karin

I watched this eBay seller for a while. It seemed they are confident enough in the eBay market for this pen to let the bidders establish the price. A couple months ago every 140 they sold went for $90-150, depending on colour and condition.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
