Blue - Omas

Not so long ago I've indulged myself and bought Omas Ogiva Alba. I received Omas Blue bottle with the pen.

Time to share some scans with you. But first allow me to make an introduction.

Omas inks are sold inlarge octagon-shaped bottle, that has been in use since it was first introduced in the 1930s. I like this design.

At the moment Omas inks are available in eight standard colors:

  1. Black
  2. Blue
  3. Gray (New)
  4. Green
  5. Red
  6. Sepia
  7. Turquoise
  8. Violet

On different occasions they produced also limited edition inks, like:

  1. Amerigo Vespucci Red
  2. Green Italia
  3. Hong Kong Red
  4. Permanent Black
  5. Roma 2000 Blue
  6. Triratna Saffron

If I'll be able to put my hands on the samples, I'll review them all.

Omas Blue is nice, saturated inks with good writing properties. I was told it was reformulated few times along the way, so the color in my bottle may not match yours. The ink dries quickly and I haven't noticed muxh bleedthrough on cheap paper. Anyway I enjoy this ink and the way it's served:

Very cool! Looks very close to my quickly vanishing Omas Roma 2000 blue. I'll have to keep this on my list.

Thanks!

Is there an Omas Blue/Black ?... Cause my Omas Blue is much darker than your scans/photos..

I believe I also have Turquoise and Sepia... so I will be sending those for you to review.

Nice review. Great blue. One of my favourites. Mine are/were exactly the same tone.

The older formulation of the ink was darker...though the more recent releases have been inconsistent from what I have read so I am not sure what you have.

I have a bottle of blue with the old mint green label and that is much darker.

I liked your pen review on Polish FPN. I don't speak Polish, except for "Żywiec" which was very helpful when I was in Poland. I have used Omas Blue and didn't really find anything special about it. Do you like your pen? I think I'll have a "Żywiec". They sell them at my local liquor store.

Congrats on the pen.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I am most definitely one of those who've had inconsistent results with the new formula. I bought a bottle of Omas Blue in 2013, one in 2014, and one this year. All three had the same great color, but each behaved differently. The 2013 ink flowed and otherwise behaved very much like Visconti Blue, one of my favorite inks. The 2014 ink was the heaviest-flowing ink I've ever owned. I couldn't use it straight in any pen; I always mixed it with another blue or Waterman Purple. The current 2015 ink is somewhere between the two. I can use it with EF nibs on Clairefontaine and Rhodia and my Watson-Guptill Sketchbooks. I still mix it most of the time.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

I received a sample a while ago and fell in love with the ink: it flowed well, lubricated beautifully, had nice saturation, sheen, and shading. I eventually bought a bottle and was so disappointed with the ink I received. The color is OK, though nowhere near as nice as the sample, but it's way too wet for just about every pen I own. It's clearly a different formulation than the ink I got in the sample.

I have the same colour and I'm very disappointed.... it looks exactly as Waterman Florida Blue or Serenity Blue.

I stored that bottle for tests and mixing with another blue inks.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
