New Platinum 3776 Century Models Coming In June

I may have missed it, but I haven't seen a post about this yet. Platinum is releasing two new 3776 Century models on June 1st. Thoughts? Anyone getting these?

I really like the looks of the transparent black. Can anyone with the Bourgogne or Chartres blue models say whether or not the ink level in the converter is visible through the barrel? I know those models aren't highly transparent, but I wonder whether or not holding them up to the light makes checking the ink level possible.

I'm loving my new 3776 Century Nice Pur, and since I generally prefer rhodium trim over gold, these two look very tempting.

It's not bad. If I didn't already own two 3776 Centurys, I might consider buying them in those colour schemes.

And to answer your question, no, you can't see the ink level through the Chartres Blue barrel. You can see a faint outline of the converter in good light, but that's about it.

Pilot Custom 823, Pelikan M600, Platinum 3776 Century (x2), Pelikan 400NN, Sailor 1911L, Pilot Elite 95s, TWSBI Vac 700, Noodler's Neponset, Hero 9018.

Thanks for the link!

The Platinum Centurys are wonderfully simple pens and it's just really nice to not have to worry about ink evaporation and spillage with air travel.

I like the Blue Rhodium color scheme; the Goulets have it coming soon:

What may happen, though is the retailers in Japan like Pen Room may get it first:

Rhodium on the cool-biased Chartres Blue should be beautiful. To your question, the ink level isn't easily seen. A tiny flashlight at my desk helps illuminate the barrel in the Century and several other pens.

Luxury Brands, the U.S. distributor of Platinum Pen products, says the pens will ship to them from Japan late May. Once the pens arrive, pre-orders will ship to retailers the following day.

Thanks shedberg. Good to know.

No problem. Just happy to get some feedback. I really like these pens too, and I felt like I was all alone getting excited about this announcement, so I had to share :)

Thanks Margana. That's a brilliant, and simple, solution. And btw, your review of the Nice Pur was partly responsible for me buying that pen. Now I'm eyeing the original Nice with the rose gold, too. Just wish it would go on sale like the Pur did.

Why are these models 15,000 yen instead of the 10,000 yen that the regular 3776 Century models (including the Chartres Blue GT and Borgogne) cost?

The price of scraping off that gold plating.

The Chartres Blue is Gorgeous

arcadeflow makes a good point though - gorgeous, yes, but is it worth 50% more gorgeous?

If I was going to buy one of the two, I would definitely pick the rhodium trim, but the price hike does kind of suck. Although maybe that just applies if buying from Japan? Goulet lists them at the same price as the original gold-plated models.

Actually, if you have a strong backlight, you can clearly see the ink level through the Chartres Blue barrel, as well as (slightly easier) the Bourgogne Red. It's night here, with one fairly bright torchiere lamp across the room.

Now you've got me checking all my currently inked pens...

Oh, awesome. Between this, and Margana's flashlight idea, it sounds like it should be possible. I wonder how dark the transparent black is. So hard to tell in pictures. Darker than the Pilot Custom 92 in smoke? Might have to get it to find out.

Haha, sorry if I'm making you a compulsive ink checker. I think I'm already there, myself. And I get tired of unscrewing the barrel, so transparent sounds like it would suit me well.

I just got a 3776 Century Chartres, which of course has gold trim, and now I want the rhodium trim one. I must get it. Maybe with a music nib, or an UEF, or another soft fine... Hmmmm.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
