What Has Happened To Me?

I thought I would be happy just writing with a FP, I just recieved a Lamy Vista. I just popped in the supplied cart of Lamy blue, it started out OK, but I don't really like the color. 3 hours later it's really starting to irritate me, to the point that I'm leaving work to go buy a blub to clean out the pen and change the ink. I keep most of my ink (2 bottles and 3 samples) at work where I have room to clean and futz with my few pens. I am starting to understand why people are so passionate over the colors of inks.

Nothing worse than having a full fill of an ink you hate, down the drain it goes...

Its simply you realizing that you will be making statements for the future that will survive longer than your 1s and 0s in your ipad. Might as well make that writing as enjoyable as possible with a wonderful ink and pen.

Yeah, Lamy Blue is hideous. I dumped it, too.

I actually like Lamy blue, but there are so many BETTER looking inks out there, I never actually ink my pens with it. Well, I think I have one with it. But I'll certainly never put it in a demonstrator.

Ink color is what this venture is all about! Well, at least in the beginning. Then after time and learning, I began to really feel the differences of pens and nibs and papers....now there are so many variations that can contribute to a pleasant writing experience. Finding just the right tools to go together is part of the journey and adventure, fun and frustration of this hobby.

Exploring different inks, papers, pens and nibs, are all part of the fun. Finding what fits your tastes and writing needs are all a part of the learning process. There will be things that we try or buy we end up not liking. But then we can always share them with others who might like it.

A nice thing about cartridges is that you can use a syringe to clean them and refill with your preferred bottle ink. ;)

INDEED! I started reading here more than a year ago & was SURE I hated BLUE inks. I have come over to the "blue side" & indeed now appreciate several of them. Just this afternoon after receiving a bottle of ink (that has been discontinued because of the "dangers it presents to fountain pens!") I filled up a Parker 61 (recently purchased & freshly cleaned) AND can NOW see why people squealed about Parker Penman Sapphire being gone! I admit to being "abandoned & without hope" to admit I purchased an ink (at inflated cost) that had been taken off the market for "endangering" pens in a color that was NOT one of my favorites YET am quite happy! I confess to having previously acquired & used Penman Mocha & haven't seen any signs of danger after a month or more so I really didn't expect the pen to BLOW UP ..........but this is a remarkable shader & I am sure glad to have made it's acquaintance. I shall remain "hopeless BUT happy!"

It is a real struggle with me not wanting to be wasteful, but not liking an ink.

Sometimes I will just tough it out and do a bunch of writing practice to use up the ink. If it is really jarring, I'll flush and fill with something else.

I have gone through cycles. At one point, I had about 40 some inks. Those died to the grim reaper of SitB.

Now, I think I'll just get a few basics and call it good.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
