What Eversharp Pen Set Is This?

I have just picked up this Eversharp pen set. I can't seem to identify what model the pen was and when was it produced. If anyone could help please. Would also like to know about the approximate value of the set. The pen is in working condition. These are the seller's low quality pics. The pen set is still on its way. Would appreciate fellow FPNers help.

Thanks in advance.

I think it's a Symphony 701, based on the narrow band around the cap. I also bought one of these recently.

Thank you. After looking for the pen on a few sites I too am of the view it is a Symphony 701. Did I do well paying $48 for the set?

Seems a little high to me, the completed sales on ebay shows them selling both as single pens and sets for around 15 to 25 on average it seems like. But I don't know if the 701 falls under those same averages.

Well , at peytonestreetpens.com the set is offered for $110.

At (bleep).com only the pen is offered for $120-135.

But may be you are right. I may have overpaid.

Forgot to mention the set is in fully restored condition.

Collector and shop sites are not a good indicator of market value. You can ask any price you want on a product, but if no one is buying it at that price, it's not really worth that price.

The eBay completed sales search gives a better idea of what people were willing to bid up to on a number of them.

Edit: "Fully" restored would probably be cleaned up a bit better (ie: just replacing the sac isn't fully to me), but if it's working and you're happy with it, then it's good.

I agree. But keep in mind there is no ebay in Pakistan. Meaning nothing can be bought from ebay while in Pakistan. The goods on ebay simply would not be shipped to Pakistan. I once bought nib sections for $25 each for my Sheaffer pens from ebay through an agent in the UK and the price went up to $57 each upon reaching Pakistan. I am sure the set would easily sell in Pakistan for $ 80. Nontheless, you may be quite right saying I have overpaid judging from the prices of sold items on ebay.

I paid less, around $20. But it was not restored, it was sold with no guarantee that it would even work. It did clean up pretty well, but it is not flawless. It writes well, but is very wet, with a lot of nib creep.

Mine is guarented. It went to a reputable restorer in Karachi on seller's cost before being shipped to Islamabad. It is the low quality of the pictures by the seller taken before restoration that do not show the restored condition of the set. Further, the set is shipped without advance payment on the basis of " cash on delivery" and , hence , fully guarented. Edited by mitto

  • 2 weeks later...

I think $48 for a restored Symphony set is a fair price. In the last five years, I've seen a Symphony fountain pen sell for $25 - $50, depending on the sac (re-sacc'ed or ??), the cap ("slipper" or later well-turned metal or crudely machined metal or plastic), or nib.

Further, I've seen that many Symphonies do not post well. Might be that the barrel has softened, gone out of shape, or maybe some were not intended to post. I have a couple that post well: a slipper cap with a heavy inner-cap, and a plastic cap, for instance. No idea why...just guesses without evidence.

About five or six years ago, this sub-forum had a thread entitled, approximately, "I'm beginning to like the Symphony". Perhaps Symphony prices have increased to follow Skyline prices? As in, "Since the Skyline is valuable, the Symphony must also be valuable".

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
