The easiest test would be to empty the pen an fill again. Does the vibrancy return? If so, there are three likely causes.

 

1. The ink gets darker and more saturated as it sits in the pen due to evaporation/concentration. This would only happen so quickly in a very poorly sealed pen, and the ink would soon dry out completely in the pen. This is rare.

 

2. The ink gets darker and more saturated due to dilution and slow capillary action. This happens because you cleaned the pen and left a small amount of water inside, resulting in a lighter initial color. You can avoid this to some degree by using a paper towel to wick water from the nib after cleaning the pen.

 

3. The pen wrote "wet" when you filled it but now writes "dry." This happens because the nib and feed are saturated when you fill your pen and the first lines are always bold. But if the nib tines are not properly spaced, or the feed is not properly cut, the pen can write a dry line, which looks lighter and less saturated, as in your image.

 

Also, you seem to be confusing "dark" with "dull" in the image you posted. While the first line is indeed more vibrant, the second line is lighter and less saturated, not darker. Because of this, I suggest you're seeing the result of #3 above, or your pen arrived with a more saturated blue ink already in the feed.

Amber was displaying her point that ink color can vary in different pens. However, I fully agree that the ink she used is offensively ugly, lol.
