2015 Edison Group Buy?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if there will be a group buy this year? I know last year it happened a little later but I believe it was more of a Spring event in past years.

Just hoping I didn't miss it.

At least nothing on their website's news items indicates that it would have already gone.

Yep, will happen. Exactly when is to be determined. If you want to go to edisonpen.com and subscribe to the blog (right hand side "sign up for updates"), you'll get the announcement in your email.

Wonderful. Thanks, signing up now.

I am not sure what a group buy is but I am excited all the same.

Anyone like Ray Bradbury? Please read "The Laurel and Hardy Love Affair" if you have about 12 minutes.

The group buy from Edison has varied a bit each year.

Last year Brian provided a Glenmont in an acrylic and an ebonite. There was a small time window in which one could buy the pen. When the time period was finished, Brian ordered the materials and made the pens in the number of people who purchased.

The price has been less than a custom pen and more than the production lines. Prepayment was required. Brian provided updates on his web page as he built the pens.

It is really a great deal and a lot of fun. I can't wait to see what he has planned for 2015.

Is there going to be a "group buy" other than the current Edison pen on Goulet's site?

Yes, Brian has said so (see message #3 above).

He's on vacation until around July 9th.

I wonder if there be some news on the group buy soon or if it'll be after the DC super show, although if I recall correctly last year's announcement was after DC.

Also curious to know if there will be another new production line pen to replace the Hudson.

Group Buy = way for a vendor to extract money from a group of people all at once :) :)

With Edison, the way it has worked in the past is this: Brian chooses a pen from the Signature Line and two optional materials (usually one ebonite and one acrylic). He then offers it at a significant discount to anyone who commits to buy before a fixed deadline. You have your choice of steel nib and material and that's usually about it. After the window closes, Brian and the team build the pens and ship them to you. Usually takes several weeks depending on material availability, other orders in the pipe, etc. Brian is great at keeping everyone posted about the progress.

Essentially, it is a way for you to get one of the Signature Line pens at a reduced price = Good Deal.

Of course the Group Buy Master (that would be Brian) can change the rules.

I've done three (or is it four) of these group buys with Edison and they are all great. I love Edison pens, but I love 'em more when they cost less!! :) :)

The more I know about computers, the more I like my pens.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
