My New Jinhao X450 Arrived!

This is my new Jinhao X450.

After a few minutes of use I would give it 4 stars. It writes nicely and looks beautiful, but the cap does not feel secure when posting and there is a minor blemish on the body.

My main disappointment is not with the pen itself, but with the seller. The Amazon listing said it came with a fine nib, but it is clearly at least medium.

Ink is Iroshizuku Kon-Peki.

I just got one of these yesterday. The same blue swirl as yours. I am really impressed with the smoothness of the nib on mine. I'd say mine is pretty similar to a western medium. I don't know if I've just been really unlucky with my previous nibs, or if the larger nib makes that huge of a difference, but this is probably the smoothest pen I own (out of a Parker 51 EF, a Pelikan 405 F, a Metropolitan F, and a Safari F.) I've had it less than a day but the limited use it has seen so far has been pleasant. A bit heavy, but it writes very, very well. I am completely satisfied with the pen, especially for less than $10. The converter that came with it is a bit rubbish, though.

Regardless of what the seller says, Jinhao's tend to be a slightly fine medium unless the nib is hooded. Then the nib tends to be fine. If you want a different nib, you'll have to buy one elsewhere. Jinhao are like the old Model T Ford: Any colour you want, so long as you want black.

Regards,

Richard.

After looking into it further, while the title of the Amazon page says Fine nib, down in the details it says Medium. I should have looked closer. Lesson learned.

I'm still looking for a good F pen to use to rotate with my Metropolitan. But at least I can put this one to use rotating it with my M nib Metro which is what I use to write letters with. So even though it isn't a Fine nib it will see lots of use.

Well, J. L., glad you are doing nicely with your Jinhao. Yes, they are very useful pens and a good edition to the stable of Daily Writers. One of the things that make them so useful is that it is very easy to pull the nib and replace it with another # 6 nib.

Goulet Pens sells a great line of JoWo nibs in # 6. Costs about $15.00 per nib, actually more than one usually pays for the Jinhao. But the quality makes it well worth it. Also available is the Noodler, in flex and non-flex. They cost a good bit less than the JoWo Goulet nibs but the quality control is less stringent as well. So that is one way to get your Fine nib. Just order and buy.

Enjoy,

Yours,
Randal

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

I did not know I could do that. Thank you!

Although I've already ordered a pen that should actually be Fine :lticaptd: I ordered a Picasso 903, black. :)

The lesson should really be that Amazon information is bs more often than not. Not just for this item, but for countless others, you'll find contradictions not only between listings, but between information given within the same listing.

This was actually sold by a third party, just using Amazon as their store front. So I can't really count that against Amazon rather than against the individual seller who put the information up.

I'm glad you are enjoying your new pen! Jinhao X450s are known to not post securely (I have three of them) and that's one reason some prefer the X750s which do post easily and are a bit lighter than the X450s. With mine, I've had to tweak the nibs to get good ink flow and I've also smoothed the nibs. Looks like you have good ink flow and a smooth nib out of the box.

I have a black one. It's medium, indeed, and very smooth. I don't have problems when posting it, though. I just give it a little extra push and it's good to go.

I'm glad your new pen writes nicely.

I have 2 450s and I'd say both are the broader side of medium, and both are supremely smooth writers.

I agree that they don't post well, but I just give mine a wee extra push and that does the trick.

You'll like your Picasso too.

I have a Swedish flower king and it's a beautiful pen, one of my favourites.

I knew it wouldn't be long before you found yourself on the "slippery" slope. Hahaha.

Welcome to the world of irresistible Chinese pens.

ENJOY

Ian

Congratulations! I have my eye on a 750, currently at .99, if no one else bids I'm going to try for it. We'll see!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
