Picking Up New Montblanc Starwalker Urban Speed Tomorrow

I went to my local AD and they ordered me the StarWalker Urban Speed Fineliner. It is being overnighted to the store. As I have said in the past I do A LOT of carbon paper work so using the fineliner and/or switching to a rollerball works best for me. I haven't seen the pen in person, but I think it looks neat in the pictures. I love the bubble on the top of my StarWalker A380 Airbus, and the new one on the Urban Speed is flat like the StarWalker Extreme. I will post pics here in this thread tomorrow after I pick it up.

Well bad news. The AD called me and said the pen arrived but the pen / coating was some how chipped / scratched. I honestly didn't go to the store and see it so I can not say exactly what was damaged. I questioned it because I thought the pen has some sort of PVD coating and was maybe more durable. I was told the cap wasn't on correct, not sure I understand?? Montblanc overnighted another StarWalker Urban Speed Fineliner and I will have the new one tomorrow. Fingers crossed I will post pics tomorrow.

Well the pen did not get shipped in time from MB to the AD. I got confirmation about 2 hrs ago it will be tomorrow with Saturday delivery. I received a pic of the one that was defective. The black has come off the threads as can be seen in the pic below.

Is that a pvc coating? If yes, we dealing with an ultra-industrial Starwalker.

This is someone who has nothing to look forward to.

This is what it says on the MB website: "Black precious resin, PVD-plated fittings with brushed surfaces"

Ok. So I picked up the new pen that was overnighted by MB Sat delivery.

It is really cool. Like it so far. Here are a few pictures.

  • 7 months later...

Do the fine liners write well at low angles like a FP or pencil will? I have trouble finding a rollerball that works at FP angles.

My AD gave me a leather MB pad case and notepad inside.

You're lucky. My boutique doesn't give me anything when I purchase a pen 😞

Which boutique did you go to? South Coast Plaza?

Hi Ed. Yes. That's the one I got to. Should I be asking for a gift or a bottle of ink when I purchase a new pen there?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
